"Arabella! Get outside and start the car!" Karen yelled and I quickly got up.

"Yes ma'am." I said and ran into the kitchen.

"Now!" She hollered, not giving me time to put on a coat.

"Okay." I winced and ran outside, getting in the car.

I put the key in the ignition and started the car.

"Hurry up, you toad!" Karen hollered and I sighed. I got out of the car and ran inside.

"I got it started. It should be warmed up in a moment. Need anything else?" I said and she chuckled a bit.

"Just make sure that Justin is up and get him to school. Then, I need you to clean the kitchen, paint the living room, go to the costume shop and get Justin's zombie costume, bake a cake for my birthday party tomorrow, call and confirm the reservations for the hotel tomorrow, feed the hedgehog, go grocery shopping- the list is on the table, clean the bathroom, pick my dress up from the dry cleaners, clean Justin's room, and polish my shoes. Caio." Karen said and walked out the door, to go to work.

"Okay. Have a good day." I said and waved at her as she left.

It was quite obvious that she wanted me to be busy all day. I knew the purpose, too. I sighed and walked down the hallway, and knocked on Justin's door.

"Justin. It's time to get up, get ready for school." I said as I knocked one last time. "I'm going to the kitchen to fix your lunch, and I'll be back to make sure you're up." I said, then walked back to the kitchen.

I got the bread out and the peanut butter, then spread it on the bread. Before I could get the jelly, the phone started ringing. I walked to the phone and answered it.

"Ella! You know what day it is!" Linda squealed.

I rested the phone between my shoulder and my ear as I started putting the grape jelly on the bread.

"The day before Halloween." I said unenthusiastically.

"Exactly! Which means that tomorrow is Halloween!" Linda said excitedly.

"Just another day." I said and finished making the sandwich, then put it in a paper bag. "Give me a second." I said and put the phone down.

I went to Justin's room and knocked on the door.

"You up?" I asked.

"I'm up, loser. I'll be in there in a second." Justin muttered.

"Okay, hurry up, dude. I don't want you to be late for school again." I said and went back to the kitchen, then picked up the phone. "Speak." I said and put the phone up to my ear.

"Halloween isn't just ANY day! Tomorrow is the big costume party at that fancy hotel! You have to come!" Linda said.

"I can't! I have to be at Karen's birthday party at the hotel right across from that one tomorrow, plus I can't even get a costume. I'm busy today too." I said and I could hear Linda sigh.

"You've got to work it out somehow. What are you supposed to do at Karen's party." Linda asked.

"I'm apparently the party planner. I have to stay out of sight, and make sure that the party is going great. She doesn't want me to be in the crowd though. She said to wait in the lobby while she has her party." I said.

"See? That's perfect. When does the party end?" Linda questioned.

"Midnight." I replied.

"I have a-"

"Ooh! You're on the phone! I'm telling mom!" Justin said as he entered the room. For a high-schooler, he sounds so immature.

"No, don't tell your mom, okay?" I said to Justin and quickly hung up, then put the phone away. I checked the first thing off the chore list, which was to make sure Justin was ready for school.

"What's in it for me?" Justin said and crossed his arms.

"Um, I will do your homework for a week." I said and he chuckled.

"Two weeks, and I won't tell."

"Deal." I said. "Okay, let's get you to school." I said and gave him his lunch, then he went to school.

I sighed and looked at the list. Next was to clean the kitchen. It was fairly clean, so all I had to do in there was wash a few dishes and sweep. That was finished fast. Now, painting the living room took a few hours, but I got it done.

I looked at the list one last time before leaving the house, then went to the costume shop.

"Hey, Jeff. I'm here to pick up Justin's Halloween costume." I said as I walked up to the counter.

"You got it. You need a costume too?" Jeff asked before walking to the back to get Justin's costume, then gave it to me.

"I don't need one. I'm not going to that costume party that Justin is going to, and she wants me in the lobby of the hotel from six in the evening until midnight. I'm not doing anything at all. Thanks anyway, Jeff." I said and took the costume, which was already paid for.

The day went by very slowly, but I got all the chores done and got home before Karen did.

"I'm home, you little brat. Did you do everything I asked?" Karen said and slammed the door behind her.

"I did. I guess you have more for me to do?" I said and she smirked.

"Of course."
