~ I'd say that my life is pretty good. I live in Inkopolis Plaza, a place with several stores on the side, with a big, green Eiffel Tower in the middle, and a news broadcast building on the other side. I've got an amazing team for Turf Wars, I have the bestest friend ever, and I have my own house. Life is pretty good. Or so I thought. On my 14th birthday, I was so happy! I not only was allowed to play Turf Wars, but I could now turn from an inkling into a squid whenever I wanted! It was the best day of my life. Now, when my sixteenth birthday was coming up, I only expected it to be better. I mean, sweet sixteen, right? That was the day that I met him.... ~

"Hey guys, wait up!" I shout.

"Come on, Clarissa! we have to power up our gear! The Splatfest is tomorrow! We need to have Team Cars win this!" Sarah, my best friend, shouts. "We are totally out numbered by the Planes, so we have to get the best gear ever!" she adds. "Not only that, but your birthday is tomorrow too! So we absolutely have to win this!" Sarah shouts with joy, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

I blush, red as a tomato. Everyone in Inkopolis Plaza is looking at us!

"Yeah, Clarissa hurry up!" Ally, one of my other best friends, calls.

"We're gonna go in without you!" Alicia warns over her shoulder.

"You wouldn't dare," I laugh, trying to ignore the stares that we were getting.

"You have the rest of the day to gawk at the trucks, and tomorrow to gawk at Callie and Marie! So hurry up!" Sarah whines.

I finally reach them and a look of horror crosses my face. I slap my forehead as I realize what I forgot.

"Guys I have to go back!" I sigh.

"What now?" Ally groans, crossing her arms.

"I forgot my Aerospray RG! I grabbed my Splattershot Jr. instead!" I moan.

"Whatever! You have your ink tank on, right?" Alicia asks, raising an eyebrow and reaching out to spin me around.

"Yes, I do! I wouldn't forget that! You guys know me better than that..." I trail off.

Sarah raises an eyebrow, then simply says, "Good. Then you'll battle with that."

"What? No! Everyone will think that I'm just a newbie, not the level 40 that I actually am!" I complain.

"Too bad!" They all shout in unison before pulling me in and typing on the server laptop.

"Ugh, noooo!" I groan. Ten seconds later, we're starting the battle at Blackbelly Skate Park.

Several battles later, I come back, having upgraded all of my gear.

"See, told you it wasn't gonna kill you!" Sarah says in her I-told-you-so voice.

I laugh and add, "Yeah but did you see that guy's face when I splatted him? It was hilarious!"

"And when you suddenly whipped out your bubbler and killed the entire team!?" Alicia added.

We all dissolve in laughter before I get tapped on the shoulder.

"Yes?" I ask, tears of laughter in my eyes. I suddenly pale as I realize who that was.

"C-Callie?!" I ask in shock.

She laughs and says, "Nice battle! That move you did with the bubbler was amazing." She must've seen the confusion written all over my face because she adds, "I like disguising myself as someone else and playing Turf Wars. I just wanted to say that that was awesome!"

I mentally slap myself for acting so rude. "Th-Thank you! Um, n-nice job on the battle too!" I add.

"Thanks!" She calls over her shoulder as she walks away.

"Oh, and happy early 16th birthday!" Marie adds, following her cousin.

Once they're gone, I turn to my friends. We stare at each other for a few seconds before we simultaneously squeal.

"OMG CALLIE AND MARIE JUST TALKED TO US!!" I squeal.

"AND WE BATTLED WITH THEM!" Ally adds.

"AND WE WON!" Sarah screeched, grabbing our hands and jumping up and down.

"AND THEY KNEW IT WAS YOUR BIRTHDAY!!" Alicia squeals, jumping up and down too. Before we knew it, everyone was screeching, laughing, and jumping in a circle.

"Ahem."

We all stop and still smiling, turn to see who it was. As soon as we saw who it was, all our smiles dropped. It was the Blue Bullets as they liked to call themselves. It made no sense since we always changed colors. Now, we were all pink.

"Could you please be quiet? I'd like to hear myself think," the leader, Drew, snarled. Because we were so ecstatic that the Squid Sisters, I called them the Calamari Cousins since they were actually cousins, had talked to us, he didn't affect our mood. "If you don't, then we'll challenge you to a duel to make you be quiet," the leader finished, staring at Ally.

Suddenly somber, Ally responds, "Fine. A duel it is."

"Wait but--" Ally cuts me off.

"You'll just have to battle with your Splattershot Jr.. Now let's go show these guys who's boss," she growls, putting her hand in the middle of our semi-circle. "Okay guys, Power to the Pink on three. One, two, three!"

"Power to the Pink!" we shouted. With that, we started up our battle.
