After the war ended, I thought that life could finally be peaceful. Leo came back to life and brought Calypso back from Ogygia. Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter had finally come to peaceful terms. I was starting university at New Rome with Annabeth in a little less than a month.
But a demigod can never have a peaceful life. Especially me.
The fates were cruel. Left my life in twists and turns. First, they made me the subject of the first big prophecy. And then the next one. They made me lose my memory for eight months. They put me in Tartarus with Annabeth. They created the bane of my existence, Derek Spised. And they made me lose my old life as Percy Jackson.
Derek wasn't at all impressive. He had absolutely no muscle. His body was a lot like Leo's, just much more...weak. He tried showing off his powers, but he couldn't even summon a droplet. He boasted of amazing skill at sword fighting, though truth to be told, he couldn't even defeat the Hypnos Cabin, who slept while they dueled. Almost everyone fell under some sort of trance that made them think that he was the king. Even the Ares kids, who would have normally snapped his neck for saying such remarks, let him defeat them in a sword duel.
The only ones who had my back were Leo, Calypso, Hazel, Frank, Jason, Piper, Grover, Nico, Thalia, and Annabeth. And then I lost her.
I was in the forest, looking for Mrs. O'Leary when I heard giggling up ahead. Normally, I would have left he or she alone, but something in my gut told me to investigate. So I did.
I heard a strangely familiar voice saying "But-" but it was cut off. I peaked around the tree to see a gorgeous blondie making out with this scrawny black hair kid. I recognized him. It was Derek. I was wondering who the blond was when they finally stopped. I saw her grey eyes look at Derek. I gasped with pain, shock, and betrayal.
Annabeth and Derek turned around. "Oh, it's you," he snarled. I wasn't paying attention to him. Annabeth was cuddling against him, head on his chest, his arms around her, giving him kisses every two seconds.
"Why?" I whispered. Tears were falling silently down my cheeks.
Annabeth looked disgustingly at me. "You're just a loser, a disgrace to Olympus. It's your fault Kronos and Gaea rose in the first place. Your fault that so many of our friends died. I'm much better off with Derek," she said, looking up admiringly at him, "No one likes you, Jackson."
Her words echoed through my head. I couldn't take it anymore. I ran, ran back to my cabin. I hastily packed my duffle bag, leaving only pictures in smashed picture frames.
Nico burst through the doors. "Percy, what are you doing?" he said, looking startled.
I looked at him in the eye. "I'm leaving. Forever. I've had enough. No one likes me, I get it," I said harshly.
He looked surprised. "Percy, you know that's not true. Besides, Annabeth would be crushed."
I glared at him. "She doesn't give a rats nest about me." I turned to leave. "Don't bother looking for me."
I saw Nico nod. He understood me, "Good luck," he whispered.
I ran out, out of the cabin, out of the camp, out of my old life.
