Do Kyungsoo impatiently sat in the passenger seat while his father, Mr. Do, drove his son and daughter to their designated schools in the middle of a sunny morning. Kyungsoo didn't know why he was so excited for his first year as a university student in one of Korea's best university - Seoul University. He also didn't know why he was nervous at the same time. Probably because he's going to be living at the school dorm in which he wasn't used to, since it was always going home after school with beloved family.
"What the heck's wrong with you, oppa?" Gayoung, Kyungsoo's younger sister asked from the backseat. "It's not like you're going to die in that school, I mean you are big enough to take care yourself now, right?"
"Your sister's right." Their dad looked at Kyungsoo who was just looking out of the windows, while he was fidgeting with his hands. "You'll be fine."
"It's not that. You guys are over reacting quite a bit." Kyungsoo chuckled at his family for being kind of over reacting. "It's just that this school is just too much for me, dad. I mean you could've just sent me to a normal school that doesn't have such a high reputation, plus the tuition's like doubling Gayoung's tuition."
"That's why mom and dad inquired at the school for some scholarship for you, dummy," Gayoung said, "What did you think the papers you accomplished were for?"
"But I was busy back then and I had lots of papers to work on and mom just came in and told me that it was more important then what I was working on so I accomplished it as quickly as I can and gave it to her," Kyungsoo defended. It was true. Kyungsoo was so busy that night doing some paper work for his school report that he didn't have much time to read what form was he accomplishing that was more important than his school report.
"We want what's best for you, Kyungsoo, and this school is where your mom graduated and she insisted that you go to this school." Mr. Do smiled at his son. "Well, we're almost there. Do you remember what your mom told you when it comes to a student's first day at Seoul University.
Kyungsoo smiled and nodded. His mom was very eager for his little baby to study where she once spent her entire university life in. She always oriented Kyungsoo to some basic rules which were always consistent, because there were just some rules that are sometimes added or taken off the school's policy. Kyungsoo spent his last week of summer vacation packing everything he needed for his first days of being a part of Seoul University.
The car came to a stop and Kyungsoo saw that there were students emerging from their respective services to drop them off. Some were still being accompanied by their parents while some weren't. Kyungsoo wasn't all that dependent to still be accompanied to the school entrance so he got off the car and got his belongings at the trunk.
"It looks like we'll have to leave you here and get going." His dad patted him on the shoulder. "You sure you don't need any help with your things?"
"Yes, dad," Kyungsoo answered, while putting down his luggage on the ground, "I can handle things on my own here, so you don't have to worry about me anymore. You might as well go now too before Gayoung gets scolded from being late."
"Oh yes, that's right!" His dad laughed and gave Kyungsoo one last hug before going back to the car. "Good luck son and have fun!"
"Good bye, oppa!" Gayoung peered her head at the window and waved at her older brother as the car began moving further away from Kyungsoo's sight."I'm going to miss you!"
Kyungsoo waved back and smiled at his sister. When the car was nowhere to be seen, he picked up his luggage and started going to the school entrance to proceed to the student's lounge. When he got inside, he was greeted by the sight of so many students walking around to greet each other, get their room keys, trying to relax for a bit and all other things one could think of after coming from such a long way from home. But Kyungsoo was also too eager to get to his room, unpack, get dressed and maybe take a short nap. He headed straight to the place where the members of the Student Council were sitting down and were handing out keys to the incoming students.
"Your name, please," a female student asked politely at Kyungsoo while showing off her beautiful teeth.
"D-Do Kyungsoo," Kyungsoo answered nervously. The girl then smiled back and went on to looking for Kyungsoo's name in the list of names at her laptop. When she found it she took out the room key and handed it to Kyungsoo.
"Here is your key to your room. Room 316. Just go straight ahead in this hallway, take a right and then there will be the stairs and, yeah, you're good to go." The girl instructed Kyungsoo nicely while giving the room key to Kyungsoo. Kyungsoo thanked the girl and went straight to the hallway she was referring to, turned to his right and proceeded to the staircase.
As much as Kyungsoo hated to admit it to himself, he was not that fit and not that strong to be lifting his luggage with him up to the 3rd floor. Why was he even assigned at this floor? He'll never know. But Kyungsoo also thought of an advantage when staying in higher floors. The best advantage he could come up with was that he'll never have to deal with loud students who were passing by the dorm hallways. At least that's what he thought.
He arrived in front of his room and inserted his key and opened the door. The room size was just right for two people to stay in. There were to beds, one beside the dorm windows and the other near the door. His roommate seemed to have not yet arrived, since he saw that the two beds were completely untouched yet and the wardrobes were completely empty. He decided to stay at the bed which was near the windows since he doesn't feel comfortable staying near the door. Who knows when an intruder could just come in and kill Kyungsoo in his sleep.
He placed his bag on his bed and laid his luggage on the floor and started unpacking. He first took out his uniform and placed on his bed then started to place his other clothes and shoes in the wardrobe and placed his luggage bag under his bed. He then took out his books from his bag and placed them on his little study desk and admired how much he successfully unpacked his stuff without messing up. He considered this as his first little achievement in this university.
"Now time for me to change into my school uniform," he told himself then picked up his uniform and proceeded to the bathroom, afraid that his roommate could just come in and walked in on him changing and neither of them would want that, "You still have an opening ceremony to attend to."
When he came out he took a look at himself in the mirror and was amazed at how the uniform fitted his body perfectly and he looked pretty tall in this uniform. He never admired his looks before since he always thought of himself as an ugly-duckling in his family. He was nothing compared to his sister's beauty. Gayoung was always admired of how she looked everyday, but much to Kyungsoo's surprise Gayoung never really paid attention to the people who were after her. She said that people only wanted her for what she looks like and not for who she is.
Kyungsoo and Gayoung may be at opposite genders, but they clearly agree to what each other has to say for one another. Kyungsoo has been Gayoung big brother and best friend from the time Gayoung started going to school and getting bullied by her classmates. On the other hand, Gayoung has also been the same to Kyungsoo. Gayoung might be bullied and soft when she was just starting to go to school, but she toughened up when she knew that her big brother was also being bullied while he was trying to protect his little sister. So she did her best to strengthen her heart and started to protect Kyungsoo from bullies too. From then on, the Do siblings were always on each other side whenever something bad happens to one of them.
When Kyungsoo finished admiring himself in the mirror he debated with himself whether he should take a nap or roam around the school for he might over sleep. But then he decided that it's best to get familiar with the directions now than struggling to find the way to the auditorium later, so he got up, took his keys and left the room to roam around school and who knows he might meet some new friends who could help him around.
