Prologue

"Ophelia, Ophelia..." My younger brother, Grant said as he shook me awake. This was the usual routine to wake me up every morning unless I'm in a deep sleep in which he will pour a bucket of ice cold water on my head. I whacked him away before he could go to get the bucket and rolled onto my side, snuggling into my warm bed sheets. "Wake up or we'll leave without you!" He yelled running down the hall.

I opened my eyes a crack, with my eyebrows furrowed. "Leave without me? But where are we going?" I thought aloud. Sitting up in my bed I looked around and spotted the trunk at the end of my bed. "That's today?" I screamed jumping out of bed and hurriedly putting on a dressing gown, "Why didn't anyone tell me!"

I practically jumped out of bed and sped down the stairs, two steps at a time and almost fell over as I came to a stop in the kitchen. Getting my breath back I wolfed down my cereal that dad had left for me and ran back to my room. Ok, I've got to make a good impression on my first day I thought as I looked through all my clothes. I finally decided on a black camisole with cream lace over the top with choker to accessorise myself, though I will have to take it off when I get to Hogwarts. (A/N I'm trying to get 90's fashion sense here, this is an outfit Topanga from boy meets world wore in season 1, the image I put in is the dress) I then made sure my trunk was packed and started dragging it down the stairs to the kitchen.

"Ophie, Ophie, can you pack me in you trunk too so I can come? Please...?", Grant whined from behind, calling me by my nickname which was like Sophie just without the S. I turned around and bobbed down so I was at his level. "Just think of it like this, only 3 more years 'til you go to Hogwarts, then we'll be going together, think of how fun that will be!".

"Three years", he groaned, "why can't I go now?"

"You're not old enough Grant, come on, could you help me take my trunk to the kitchen?" I said and he nodded his head and followed.

We rushed in through the crowd of people that were heading inside the train station. "What platform is it on? Is it still nine and three-quarters?", My dad asked as we passed platform seven. I checked my ticket and nodded, but then looked up, "Hey, Dad. How do we get onto the platform?".

He grinned "Just walk straight at the barrier between platforms nine and ten. Don't stop and don't be scared, I used to run at it when I was your age", I glanced apprehensively at him, "go on", he whispered gently, leaning down to my level so I could hear him, "I'll be right behind you".

I started walking towards the ticket barrier, I've got to say, it looked very solid. I bet I was going to crash right into it! What if my dad was tricking me? What if this wasn't the way to get on the platform? I was running now, getting closer and closer. I closed my eyes ready for the crash, but it never came.

I opened my eye's and saw a scarlet steam engine waiting at the platform. A sign overhead read Hogwarts express 11 o'clock. I glanced behind me and saw a wrought-iron archway where the ticket box had been, it read, 'Platform 9 3/4'. I had done it, I didn't crash, and I was alive!

My father appeared behind me, holding the hand of my brother. He came over to where I was standing with my trolley and hugged me, telling me to be a good girl. My brother cried and took to clinging on to me refusing to let go so my father had to pull him off. My father hugged me once more before rushing off to work a the ministry. Where my brother would be taken care of by Matthew, one of dad's assistants. Matthew had taken care of me when I used to go into dad's work.

I pushed my trolley over to the train in search for a carriage, Most of the first carriages were already packed with students leaning out the window hugging their parents and saying final goodbyes. I passed a boy with dark hair and glasses, two redheads were helping him push his trunk into the train before rushing off back into the crowd. I found a fairly empty carriage near the back of the train and started to push my trunk into it, an Asian girl with black hair helped me pull it in and I sat on a seat across from her and another girl who looked to be her sister.
