I walked into school, probably my face filled with tears. I was hoping no one would question anything. I walked into homeroom and sat down next to a random girl I didn't know. I looked around until I saw Leslie walking toward me with all her pretty popular friends. I was really not in the mood for her. I waited for her to push me or pull my hair or something along those lines. She came up and put her soft finger on my chin and raised it up. "Aw. Did you lose your teddy bear today? Oh wait, your mommy took away your favorite toy truck? Yes. It's ok. Santa will bring you one for Christmas. That's if your not a lazy bum." All her friends roared with laughter and she whipped her hair behind her back. Usually I would run to the bathroom and cry, but some reason, today, I was tired of her. I stood up and said with the most confidence ever, " Hey Leslie! You know why I'm crying? Huh? Yeah, my father died last night. Dead. Gone. Not here anymore. I'm not crying because of a stupid truck or something. My life isn't phones and friends. I don't cry at night because of your stupid rude comments on me. I cry because of the struggles my family has. So maybe you WILL learn a lesson and maybe you WILL LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!" I screamed really loud then pushed past her and out of the classroom. I was so mad. I was hoping she fell and died. I hated her so much. I went into the bathroom and sat in a stall for about 1 minute, then got out and went back to homeroom. Leslie was sitting at her desk staring at me as I walked in. All her friends looked at me with disgust, but I could care less.
At home my mom was sleeping in the couch and there was a note next to her.
Hi honey! How was school? Your appointment is at 3:00. Wake me up when it's time.
I threw the in the trash and walked into my bedroom. I laid down on my bed and stared and the ceiling. I'm gonna miss you dad. I cried to myself silently for about 30 minutes. I stared up at the clock. 2:50. I walked down stairs to my mom and shook her arm. "Mom it's time to go." She slowly opened her droopy eyes and gave me a weak smiled that made me smile back. She slowly sat up and grabbed her keys and walked outside. I followed behind her and into her blue Subaru. We drove off to the orthodontist and found a close parking space. We entered and my mom told me to sit while she signed me in. I sat across for a pretty hot looking guy. He had brown hair that matched his sparkling hazel eyes. He smiled and gave me a small wave. I smiled and waved back, hoping he wouldn't start a conversation, because you know how I am with guys......About 5 minutes later I was called into the back room. I walked in and laid on a dentist chair. "Getting your braces off huh? Excited?" I nodded and smiled and she put a mouth opener in my mouth and removed the brackets.
About 20 minutes later, she handed me a small purple mirror. I slowly smiled into it. Whoa. My teeth were perfect. I smiled as the doctor told me how to use my retainer. My mom listened as well and thanked her before we left. On our way to the car, my mom smiled. "You look so grown up." I giggled as we drove home, and I was noticed I was actually confident and excited to talk to a guy.
