The week dragged on. Finally Saturday came. Tyler got up early, taking a shower and brushing his teeth. He got dressed and stretched. Today he was going out to get coffee with this Jack guy. He turned everything off in the house as it neared four. There was a knock at the door. He went and answered it, greeted by Jack. He waved.
"Alright, let's go."
They walked out to Jack's car and got in. He drove them to a local coffee shop and they walked inside. They each ordered a coffee and sat down near a window.
"So, what was this all about? Why did you want to do this?" Tyler asked.
"You reminded me a lot of someone. I liked them very much and I thought why not try to get to know you? Maybe make a new friend."
Tyler nodded and took a drink of his coffee. Jack did remind Tyler of someone as well. He nodded.
"Okay, that makes sense."
"Yes. So tell me about yourself."
"Well, I uh work at the local gas station. As you know. I live in a small house by myself. My name is Tyler, as you know that too. I moved here not long ago. About a year or so."
Jack nodded and listened. "Alright. Any hobbies?"
Tyler shook his head. "Not really. Sometimes I will take walks in the woods."
Jack was quiet as Tyler said this. He thought to himself before moving on to the next part of the conversation. "What do you do in the forest?"
"Well, I will just take walks. I find it to be calming."
"Have you ever made forts?"
Tyler found this to be an odd question. "No, not since I was a kid. Why do you ask?"
"I was just wondering. Remembering a childhood memory. My best friend and I would go out into the forest, build forts and play pretend zombie apocalypse. We would go home before dark, and have ice cream. Silly to think of now I know, but you just remind me so much of him."
Tyler was silent. Everything that lead to now. He was sure it was coincidence. He wanted it to be but at the same time, wanted this to be him.
"Is something wrong? Is it what I said?" Jack asked confused.
"What is your last name?" Tyler asked.
"Smith.. And yours?"
"Stevens..."
They both looked at each other.
"You don't...possibly think.." Tyler was still trying to assure himself this was coincidence.
"Tyler. I do think. Fate brought us together again."
"I don't know.."
"I do, and I believe it."
He nodded, taking another drink of his coffee.
