The Decision

Ashley asked me to go to the mall with her and Chris. Of course I said yes because well, I mean I was hanging out with my best friend and the guy I liked. I was waiting at the table at the food court for Ashley and Chris to grab their food.

My phone started to vibrate, it was a video message from Josh. I hesitated a bit but opened the message anyway. It had been a year since the... 'Incident'. We all hung out about as much as we used to but I would be lying if I said that it wasn't weird without Hannah and Beth.

"Well hello friends and fans... Alright let's do that again." Josh walked up adjusted the camera. "Alright. Well hello friends and fans! It's beyond awesome to have you guys back this year. First off, I gotta say I am super excited to welcome all my pals back to the annual Blackwood winter getaway!" He quietly cheered, "Yay!" I chuckled as I watched the video.

"So, um... Let me just let you know, let's take a moment to address the 'elephant in the room' for a second..." His face got serious. "I know you're all probably worried about me... And I know it's gonna be tough on all of us going back after what happened last year..." He had a hint of sadness in his eyes but he continued talking. "But- I just want you all to know... It means... It means so much to me that we're doing this. And I... I know it would mean so much to Hannah and Beth that we're all still here together, thinking of them."

I felt kind of guilty because I wasn't sure if I wanted to go yet. I mean yeah, it would be great to hang out with everyone like old times, but it would be really weird to go back after what happened.

I continued to watch the video. "I really want to spend some quality time with each and every one of you and share some moments that we'll never forget, for the sake of my sisters, you know?" He got a smile on his face. "Okay... So! Let's party like we're fucking porn stars, okay? And make this one trip we will never forget, alright? Yes!" He walked towards the camera and shut it off. I couldn't help but laugh at that last line.

"What are you watching?" Chris asked setting down his tray next to me.

"Um Josh's welcome back video." I laughed.

Ashley sat on the other side of me.
"Yeah about that, Josh said that you haven't told him you whether or not you were going. Why?"

"That's because I'm... not going..." I said quietly.

"Why?" Chris asked. "Are you nuts?! What do you mean you're not going?"

"Which question did you want me to answer first?" I laughed.

"(Y/N) you have to go! Everyone is going... If you don't go it's not going to be any fun." Chris argued.

"Fun? Chris, after what happened I can barely look any of them in the eye... You know how you keep talking about the butterfly effect after we went to see the movie that one time?" I asked. Both Chris and Ashley looked at me confused. "What if I had done something different? What if I went with Beth instead of splitting up, or- or if I had been just a little bit faster...? You know? I don't know if spending a whole entire week up there is the best thing for me." I felt a tear roll down my cheek. I looked down at my tray.

"It wasn't you're fault! For all you know if you and Beth didn't split up, then you could have ended up just like them!" He argued with me. "And that would have killed me." Chris said quietly, but just loud enough for me to be able to hear it.

"Yeah don't put that on yourself (Y/N). Nothing that happened was your fault." Ashley assured me.

"Come on please? I'll make sure that you have fun." He nudged my shoulder and gave me a pleading look. Only they would ever be able to talk me into doing something that easily.
