I fall on my bed, snuggling my face into my fluffy pillow. Sara falls right next to me, laughing in a new fit of giggles. "Y'know, running away from the guy you think is cute is not per se...normal? "
"Sara, I completely and utterly embarrassed myself in front of him," I groan into my pillow. I roll over onto my side to look at her, pouting when I meet her eyes. "Besides, I didn't know what to do 'cause you so did not tell me what stage two was. How am I to properly flirt if someone doesn't fulfill their duties of teaching me? I had no choice but to hope he didn't see me while I was scurrying off."
She rolls her eyes at me. "Way to blame it on me, babe. I guess you're right though. By the way, your sexy man is cute enough that if I wasn't in a happy relationship, I'd be going after him with ya."
"See, this is why I have absolutely no chance with the guy. The rest of the school's female population is probably after him, too. Girls who already know how to flirt."
I turn back to my pillow, wishing to simply sleep off my embarrassment and hopefully, my crush, too.
"See, we can use your innocence to your advantage though. Remember he said you were adorable when you completely screwed up?" I reluctantly nod. "C'mon, you are sooooo not backing out now... Time for you to learn about stage two, OK?"
I nod again, head still shoved into my pillow.
"OK, phase two is basically making the guy chase you. Once I decide he's chased you sufficiently, we'll move to stage three, where we let you drop hints about being into him."
"This is so complicated," I whine.
She chuckles at me, mussing my hair. "You can bloody well do this, babe."
I pout even though she can't see me. "Sara, you still gotta make this quick though 'cause I got homework to do."
I can practically feel her eyes rolling; let's just say Sara averages C's because she isn't a strong believer in homework. "Yeah, yeah, Goody Two-Shoes... Alright, first off, do NOT run away from the guy. At all times, you need to let him approach you, but you never ever approach him. OK?"
I roll over to stare at the roof and to acknowledge I am absorbing everything she says.
"Next, the guy's gonna drop some compliments, and, this next part might be hard for you, you have to not get flustered. You have to act like what he says is anything but new to you. Then, you do not converse with him. Only allow your self basic conversation, okay? Nothing deep."
I cover my face with my hands, realizing that this in fact would be very, very hard for me. "Are you sure that's how I have to do it?"
"We need him interested in you and to find you mysterious. You don't want him to find you clingy."
"'Kay," I say scrunching up my nose.
"I also want you to change your look up a little bit, okay?"
"Why?" I whine again. "I don't want to change for a guy."
"Yes,but we need to get multiple of the male population interested in you. This will work all the better if the guy can get jealous."
"Fine, but nothing overboard..." I say reluctantly.
Even though I am not looking at her, I know she's grinning like the Cheshire cat. "Thatta girl. By the way, you have to be your sweet self, not your sarcasticy-cynical self."
"This is just getting harder and harder. Let's face it... I am simply not you, Sara."
She leans over me, eyes sparkling, mouth pulled into a wide grin. "I know, but you're my project. If it's the last thing we do, you are getting that guy."
