I had one friend, well he wasn't so much a friend.. more like a gaming acquaintance. All we had in common were video games and he had a car which was a plus. So after ninth period I texted him and he said he'd give me a ride home.
"Hey Emmet"
Sh*t there were a couple of guys from the football team heading this way. I mean come on what did you expect it was the first day of high school and a nerd got beat up by some dumb jocks. How original. Thank god simon came around the corner when he did. Simon (my video game "friend") knew how to fight in every way that I didn't. In that moment I was thankful because he beat the crap out of them, technically it was fair because they tried to beat the crap out of me.
I went home and went straight to bed with a pounding headache.
She texted me?
Layna asked simon for my number and now she was texting me at six o'clock in the morning.
The text said "R u sure u wanna go, u don't have 2."
She was still worried about her mom's wedding.
I wasn't sure if I should just respond with "I really don't want to go" or saying " It's totally fine, I understand, i'll go..." I decided to go with the last response.
Not because she was the prettiest girl in school but because of her blonde pigtails in kindergarten, and I remember how shy she gets in front of her family because she always dragged me to her family things.
One memory will always be in my head. At her grandma's funeral, in about third grade I finally asked her why she made me go with her to these stupid things and she grabbed my hand led me under the pew started to cry and I felt terrible for asking so I hugged her in hope she would stop, I knew I should have never asked. She turned her head towards my ear kissed it, and whispered "because you make me feel safe."
That is why I had no choice but to go to the damn wedding.
