"I hope you have a good taste in dresses. "
I wonder why.
"In fact, I am an expert on dresses I tried this blue dress on last week it would've looked amazing on you."
I could totally be a sarcastic a*s but she was laughing, so it was okay.
We walked through the aisles looking at twenty thousand different dresses. I pointed out some that I thought suited her and she picked some.
We were off to the dressing rooms.
I went to sit in the chair outside the door. She looked at me like I was crazy.
"What are you doing?"
I looked at her
"I'm pretty sure i'm sitting in this pink chair."
She says "Ha.ha.ha."
And pulls me into the dressing room.
"What am I doing in here?"
She laughs like I should know.
"Um you have to help me get into my dresses silly, and plus it isn't like you haven't seen me in my underwear before."
This is true we would play dress up in these different costumes and i'd see her in her underwear and she'd see me in mine.
This was different because when I had last seen her in her underwear we were eight years old, and now I am fifteen and she just turned sixteen.
You know what sixteen year old girls have that 8 year olds don't? Boobs.
Laney acted like it was no big deal, so I just went with the flow. I helped her into her dresses and zipped or buttoned them up. We would laugh when they got stuck or any other malfunctions happened.
It wasn't awkward at all.
I mean I would be lying if I didn't say she looked totally amazing in her bra and underwear.
But it was like we were silly five year olds playing dress up not at all like teenagers.
She picked out a dress that made her look like cinderella....and never in a million years did I think i'd be her prince.....
It was my turn to try on suits. She picked out all of them and insisted she be in the dressing room with me. I guess it was only fair because I was in her's. She picked out a suit that matches her dress perfectly.
I like how best friends no matter how long they've been a part or how long it's been since they talked once they spend some time together it's like the time they spent apart didn't exist.
It was the best day ever.
She drove me home and on the way we talked about meaningless things and laughed the whole way there, it was great.
I leaned over and gave her a hug as she pecks my cheek and says
"I'll be here at 7, i'll drive you to school so you don't have to ride that hell whole of a bus."
"That would be great, thank you."
I was happy
"I had a really good night"
She says as i'm getting ready to close the car door.
"Me too." I hope my smile wasn't too big.
"I'm kind of bummed it's over." She pauses as she thinks. "but, i'll see you tomorrow Emmet."
"Bye Lay."
I smiled all the way to the door.
"Turner" my dad always called me by my last name. He was sitting in the kitchen having a piece of pie.
"Yeah Dad?"
I say still smiling.
He looked up from his pie in disbelief.
"Was that Layna Burns in our drive way?"
I was feeling kind of gitty.
"I believe it was Dad."
