Living like an Actress

~

"So," Professor Stone clapped, "As an actor—actress—you're required to make choices for every second you are on a stage. Those choices are going to steer you through every performance and you should never be without them. Because of the importance that your choices hold, would you like to work off a vague decision? No. Every actor wants to be the best and you can't be with vague or simple choices. When you consider a role and you ask yourself the questions that develop that character, you must be specific! Sort of taking from Improv—which you guys did amazing with," he smiled. Oh I miss that smile. I barely look at him anymore because it hurts too much. Now I know how Cid feels—well felt. He's been comforting me the last 3 days. I've been in a greater depression than the Great Depression itself. I rest my head on Cid's shoulder and listen to the melodic voice that was just moaning soft words in my ear 3 days ago.

"I want to do something," he paced on the stage. He usually did that when he was excited. I started to notice these little things over the last 3 days.  "An exercise to prepare you for roles where they give you a character, but no story line until later in that show or movie. I want you to make up your own background...your own story. So you don’t have to wait to meet your character. Simply because, you’ll already know who they are.” He turns and smiles at us. Everyone got up and sat in the chairs that were in a circle on the stage. I walk up there with no life and sit with no life. I just get lucky enough to sit in front of Professor Stone. I sigh, great. Everyone looked so eager to start. Everyone except me. Even I can’t get excited about Drama.

Everyone went and came up with some elaborate roles. It was Cid’s turn, and then it was mine. I sat there trying to see what Cid comes up with.

“Cid you’ve just been hired on another CSI show. You are a temporary while the former detective is in a coma. They chose you because you have the best detective skills. Cid, what’s your story?”

He sits up with a smirk, “I may have the skills of a detective but not the personality of one. Steve likes to get under peoples skin—much like myself—and he seems to clash with everyone. To be honest he’s just trying to find a way to fit in. He’s been through it all no parents, foster homes, abuse, heartbreaks. He’s just trying to find himself. He took the job only because he thought it would give him a purpose. He’s still not sure if it does or not but it fills a void...” he trailed off. Professor smiled and joined everyone clapping. His smile soon faded as his eyes landed on mine. I shift uncomfortably and stared at the wall behind him.

“Anna. You have gotten a role on Glee you’ve been chosen, of course, because of your beautiful voice. You’re a new girl. As you know, everyone on Glee represents someone. Someone who another person can relate to. Anna, What’s your story?” He catches my eye but I quickly look away and began.

“I—Torie—represents the...hopeless romantics.” I smile at the ground, refusing to make eye contact with anyone, especially him.”There’s always those kids that look for love. Torie's that kid. She had to leave her school because, contrary to your beliefs, she can kick some ass. Shanked a ratchet ho the first day she got there. Every school she goes to, it’s the same thing for her. Fool around with the wrong guys and end up picking up the pieces of her shattered heart. However, she wanted something different at McKinley, and she went for it. However it ended like all the others. She ended up being used, and ended up a one night stand like usual. So, naturally, she slit the guy’s throat the very next morning. Now, Torie is in the Glee club so yes her anger comes out in song, but that’s never enough. Not for a girl who’s broken—”

“Christopher!?!” an all too familiar voice rang out—interrupting me—and echoed off the walls of the auditorium.

“What are you doing here at this time!?” Stone questioned, slightly startled. He seemed to be intrigued by the story along with everyone else.

“You told me to come around 2.” She replied innocently.

“It’s 12!”

“Oh, I guess it is.”

“Someone's thirsty.” Cid commented.

“Cideon!" Sam flicked him. Ignoring them, I concentrated on Stone. What is he going to do? Dismiss the class early? Leave the class, leave me so he can accompany the whore? He glanced at me before standing up and walking over to Susan. I looked at Cid ready to kill.

“Class dismissed.” he announced. My heart sank.

“Is she your wife?” someone called out. “Yea is she? She yo’ baby momma?” Stone, ignoring the comments, led Susan out of the room.

“Anna...baby...” Cid was at a lost for words.

“I’m alright.”

“Let’s go out for some froyo.” Sam suggested.

“No. I’m tired. You guys go.” I replied weakly. At that, Cid threw me over his shoulder and carried me out of the class with Sam following. He suddenly stopped cold in his tracks.

“Asswipe. If you don’t mind, I would like to be back at my dorm within the next lifetime.”

“Close your eyes Anna.” he commanded as he set me down facing the other direction he and Sam were facing. He left me with Sam and ran off.

“WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?” Cid screamed. I turned around, only to see Cid pulling Stone and Susan away from their kiss and punching Stone square in the jaw. Stone fell on his ass onto the floor. Before I could stop myself, I ran in the other direction to get as far away as I possibly could.

“Anna!” Sam chased after me. I ignored her and kept running.

“If I just keep running, everything will be okay.” I thought to myself. “Everything will be okay.” Suddenly, I heard a car horn honking.

Suddenly, I was in the middle of the street.
