That stupid hand of hers had stung like hot sauce to the eyeball when she took a shower that morning.
Both of her parents had left the night before, so they would have the whole big house to themselves. Well, it wasn't actually that much bigger than the other houses on the street, but it was one of the few that had two floors.
The bigger of the two TVs was upstairs, so that was where she set up. She didn't turn the heater on that morning, not that it was that cold...but it was cold enough without the heater to require blankets, and a sweater...and fluffy pants... and fluffy socks that allowed one to slip around like a ninja.
She had decided that morning that she was going to wear the fluffy pajama pants. After all, movies were made to be enjoyed in pajamas, even if it was a date. She figured Link wouldn't mind all that much anyways. It wasn't like she was trying all that hard; her hair was thrown up in a messy bun. Elaborate hairstyles were done with the full use of both of her hands...which she didn't have.
She still hadn't decided whether to get her hand checked out for fractures. Zelda had heard that a broken finger could go unnoticed and cause a lot of trouble later on. However, going into the hospital meant admitting what she had done to her parents...and that was a no-no.
Hey mom and dad, I punched someone in the face at the Halloween party you didn't really want me to go to, and I really hurt myself. Can I go to the hospital to see if I broke any fingers?
Link arrived around noon, and when she let him in she was relieved to see he wore what he normally did to school. Green always looked nice on him.
"Hey Zel," he greeted as he smiled in slight surprise at her attire. "You weren't kidding about that not leaving the house nonsense."
"I don't kid about such serious things," she replied with an embarrassed smile. "I figured you wouldn't mind that much... So I just decided to go all comfort today... with me dreading tomorrow and all."
"I don't mind at all," he replied with a charming smirk. "It's cute," he said as he walked past her and set his backpack down near the table. "Want to get right to it?" he asked.
Zelda was a little busy blushing, but she cleared her head as fast as she could. "For what movie?"
"Star Wars."
Zelda's eyes widened. "Are you serious."
"Of course I am," he said as he showed her the box set. Then he squinted his eyes. "You do..."
"Of course I like it." She grinned. "Even my parents agreed it was awesome. Their first date was to go see one of them in theaters."
Link smiled. "Technically ours would be too then, minus the theater."
Zelda chuckled. "Does last night not count then?"
"It wasn't a proper date."
"This isn't either," Zelda said.
"Oh? I beg to differ," he said as he pushed the movies back into his bag. "I'll be ordering a pizza tonight. Dinner and a movie."
Zelda's lip twitched into a reluctant smile. "A classic date. I don't know what came over me to suggest it was anything less."
Link laughed, and as he picked up his backpack his eyes trailed down to her bright pink and blue striped fluffy socks. He then looked back up at her with a raised eyebrow; some kind of explanation was obviously being requested.
"Don't tell me you've never slipped around on hardwood floors with fluffy socks."
Link shrugged as he shook his head. "Can't say I have."
"What a terrible childhood you must have had!" she said sarcastically. Then she backed up and ran the length of the room, stopped a few meters short of the wall and then slid the rest of the way easily. "It's ridiculously fun," she said with a large smile.
Link's eyes glittered with amusement. "I'll take your word for it."
Zelda smirked slightly. "I don't think so," she said, and then grabbed his hand and ran up the stairs, practically dragging him after her the first few steps before letting him go and jumping the stairs two at a time.
"Put your stuff there," she told him as she pointed to a spot on the couch and then disappeared into her room. She emerged about thirty seconds later with a pair of black and white fluffy socks. Not a black and white pattern... no... one black sock and one white sock. She threw them at Link.
They hit him on the shoulder and when he picked them up off the ground he raised an eyebrow. "You want me to wear these?"
Zelda nodded.
He chuckled as he took off his shoes and socks and slipped on the new ones. He took one step and knew immediately this was a whole new experience. It was like skating... but with less control. Skates didn't really go sideways either, and the socks did that with ease.
Uncomfortable ease.
Zelda slid up to him and gave him a gentle push. "Go on, run and then slide."
He blinked a few times. "If I do that I will fall."
"I know you're more coordinated than that... and me. If I can do it, then you most certainly can too."
Link laughed and put his hands up in defeat. "Alright," he conceded.
After several minutes of sliding around like clumsy ninjas, Zelda fell onto the couch and stretched. "So, we gonna watch them all?"
Link chuckled at her wishful thinking. "We don't have that kinda time. I thought just the original trilogy? That's almost seven hours."
Zelda grinned. Seven hours of Link and Star wars? While wearing pajamas, and no heater?
It was literally her ideal day.
Taking that as a yes, Link wasted no time putting it in and starting it.
While they may have started about half a foot away from each other on the couch, about an hour into the movie Zelda and Link, with separate blankets of course, were rubbing shoulders. She couldn't even remember moving over at all, and yet through that hour they had gravitated slowly towards each other. Zelda could feel the rise and fall of his shoulders as he breathed.
She didn't really even have to pay attention to the movie, she'd seen them so many times. Instead, she kept sneaking looks at Link.
However, near when Luke was in the last battle of 'A New Hope', she peeked and found eyes looking straight at her. Her eyes widened and she quickly averted her gaze.
"What?" Link asked with a humor in his tone. "It works both ways you know."
Zelda was confused for a second but then realized just what he'd meant. He had already been looking at her. Which meant... he could have been doing the same thing she had been doing the whole movie.
As she looked at him he reached over and ruffled her hair. "Do you want to do anything before the next movie?"
--
It wasn't until about ten minutes before the scene would start that Zelda remembered it. The kiss scene. It had never been too awkward for her to watch before, but that was because she had only ever watched it with her parents, or by herself.
Link looked over at Zelda, who seemed to have gotten a bit fidgety. He quickly, and correctly, guessed what had caused such a reaction. He smiled slightly. "Want to skip that part?"
"Skip what part?"
"The kiss."
Zelda shifted a little uncomfortably, and as she did she came to realize just how close she was to Link. "Uhm..." She looked over at him and then abruptly moved away. "I have to pee," she said as she stood up and tried her best to not run out of the room.
