Imagine if you could reverse time. That you could actually be there to stop the bad things in your life from ever happening. Wouldn't that be......helpful. Anyway, it wouldn't matter when you think about it all. Some say she deserved everything that happened to her,her bad decisions all fall on me now, like am living her life for her although she's not here anymore. No mom to comfort me when I get bullied for her younger days as a pornstar,no mom to bail me out of jail when I got into major fights because mommy decided she was gonna get drunk and run around naked in the middle of the night, waking up the whole neighborhood,no;it was just me now,the only daughter of Elizabeth Khan, the daughter who can't live her life or make a name for herself. The daughter who can't make her own mistakes because her mother already made enough for the both of them.
The only problem is that I'll be living with them alone now, because she left me to fend for myself in the world. And with her mistake weighing on my back. Am afraid that if I make any mistakes of my own that I wouldn't be able to stand up anymore without some kind of support. So in everyone's eyes am a perfect little angel and I intend on keeping it that way. But here is how that all changed because of a mere stranger.7:39am-Thursday morning.
"No Donte I do not need to hear that right now,I need to be on time today please!!"
"Am sorry E,but it takes more than five minutes to change a tire, can't you call Coleman?"
"No D!!,I can't,we're not ok and I don't need to get into another heated argument right now. You know how importing this test is",I said racing down the stairs and into the kitchen,I searched the fridge for my pudding cup to eat on the way to school but unfortunately my aunt beat me to it. Rolling my eyes I left the house with my bag on my shoulder, which dragging me down in the process.
"Start walking, I should catch up to you in no time,I promise you won't be late",he said hunging up.
"Sure",I placed the cell in my pocket and practically jogged down the sidewalk. The sun was baking me slowly but surely and my long brown hair began sticking to my face and neck.gross.
I had walked almost a mile when I car pulled up next to me and the window rolled down slowly. Revealing it's dark and handsome driver.
"You need I ride,I assume we're going the same place",his baritone voice caught my attention as I turn and looked completely at the stranger.
"As heavy as this bag is,am going to pass, you know the 'no talking to strangers' rule right?,I'd like to keep that in action".I increased my speed.
"Well actually, you already broke that rule, and school starts in about........five minutes, and toots, you have two more miles ahead of you, last chance".I froze in place out of fright and anxiety, if I miss this test it will effect my grades and GPA!,and that mean good bye Princeton and hello disappointment.
"Am gonna murder Donte",I said under my breath. I walked around and hopped into the passenger's seat of the car. He zoomed off as soon as the door had closed.
I began analyzing him. I've never seen him before,so he must be new here. I just happened to live in a white community, so there's not a lot of people here with my dark brown skin colour,he must be new.
"I guess your mom never told the 'staring is rude' rule huh?",he deep voice spoke and snapped me back.
"Sorry,I didn't mean to--"
"No it's fine lil thing, I get that a lot were I come from",ahaa!,so he's not from here.
"Where are you from?,just curious"
I said with a small shrug. He turned to me and smile, showing off his white teeth as he pulled into Shawnee High parking lot and parked in the vice principal's spot which clearly said 'vice principal parking'. He shut the engine off an turned to me once again, and I somehow got lost in his hazel/green eyes.
"Ever heard the saying...'Curiosity KILLED the cat'?,let's mind our own business so that doesn't happen",he said smirking but I found no humor in what he just said.
"Thanks for the lift",I deadpanned. I rushed out of his presence and into the school doors just as the bell above my head sounded. Oh thank God am not late.
I thought as I walked into my homeroom to take SAT's.
Donte POV
I quickly pulled up into the school yard twenty minutes late. Oh dear God please let me live today.I asked my father, knowing that Era is gonna be pissed.
I jumped out of the beat down, creaky, rusty, tired old vehicle and raced through the school doors. I knew everyone was in their zone right now,but I had to see if Era was one of them. I bursted through the classroom door, catching everyone's attention at the same time. I quickly scanned the room and saw her in the far corner, with the same irritated and annoyed expression that I have grown to love and fear.
"Mr.Smith are you out of your mind?,dismiss yourself this instant!",Miss fat head, annoying as hell, pain in my ass Bumbery yelled.
I rolled my eyes and muttered a 'sorry',to Era before I left. I turned and walked down the null hallway at a fast pace, until I crashed into a girl;completely knocking her off her feet.
"Oh man,my bad",I stretched my hand out but she swatted it away.
"Please get away from me",she said picking herself up. I chuckled at her struggle. Once on her feet she glared at me,but it wasn't a harsh glare,it was more sad.
"Hey,I really am sorry, don't cry",I said attempting the act of consolidation.
"Am fine",she said pushing her blonde hair behind her ears.
"Am Donte Smith,it's a pleasure to crash into you",I said shaking her hand. She smirked at my humor.
"Am Naya Andrews, and am late",she said walking off.
"OK!,we'll talk later then!!",I yelled after her.She laughed and wave goodbye.
