Just Strangers

Chapter 2

"Are you serious Donte?,I had to catch a ride with a guy,that threatened to kill me...I think".I said storming out the back door that was on the rooftop of the school. It was way up and far away from everybody else it was completely obsolete. Just the way I liked it.

It was usually quiet and peaceful, with a good enough shade to hide you from the sun,but it wasn't the best help if it rained. I used this null area of the school to get away,but Donte didn't seem to get that.

"Stop following me!",I said throwing my bag on the gravel and turning to face him.

"Why should I,am your bestfriend and I have the right to tell you when your being ridiculous, and you are!",he approached me and placed his hands on both sides of my face. I grabbed his wrist,ready to yank them off.

"Am sorry,I tried to to fix the truck in time I swear it. Please forgive me",he said in a baby tone while pouting. I tried to fight the smile that wanted to appear so badly. And then he did it,the only thing he knew would make me crack.

He made his silly face were he crossed his eyes and his tongue was sticked out of his head. I laughed and pushed him away,making him step back a few steps.

"Do you forgive me now",he said approaching me again. I rolled my eyes.

"Fine,it's not your fault that your the only guy I know who can't fix a tire in under five minutes".D rolled his eyes and pulled me into a bone crushing hug.

"Really D,get off",I said pushing him once again. He laughed and kicked the can that was stopping the door from completely closing, while pulling it open.

"Come on E,let's get something to eat while we can before my stomach eats itself",he said in a whiny tone.

I sigh;picking my bag up off the ground.

"Your so stupid",I said slapping the back of his neck as I walked pass.

"Ow!,that's just an excuse to hit me for being late!",he yelled after me.

Five minutes later...

Donte and I sat at our special bench out in the courtyard. What made it special was that it had a large tree that was seven foot tall that grew right in the center. Nobody befriended the bench so me and Donte did. Well mostly me since Donte thought it was a stupid idea at first. But just like me,he's grown to love it.

I sat on the bench while Donte sat on the table,leaned up against the tree. He bit into his sloppy Joe,making meat shoot out the other side. I gave him a disgusted look.

"Love you to E",he said with his mouth full,knowing that that would gross me out.

I finished my fries and stood up from the bench.

"I'll be back,am going to the garbage"

"Wait!,am not done yet",D said eating faster.I rolled eyes.

"It's fine,take your time I won't be long".

"But the garbage is wayyy in the back of the shhhhol",he said taking another big bite.

"I think you mean 'school',and I won't be long,chill", I said walking off.

I walked until I reached the silver gates. You see the thing about Shanee High is that they think it's 'smarter' to keep one huge garbage can behind the dark,vacant and eerily quiet school.Then to have normal small bins on school campus.

No one ever goes back here alone because of the rumors everyone says about some girl who supposedly got murdered behind here a few years back. But I doubt that what really happened.

I pulled the silver gate open and entered the poor lite area. The school's courtyard was pretty noisy but once past the silver gate, it becomes.....well eerily quite.

I tried to make this quick before I passed out from the rancid stench.

Walking up to the big overflowing dumpster, I jumped and attempt to throw my garbage in;just to have it fall back down at my feet.

"Damn it!",I whispered

I tried again and actually nailed it.

But before I could walk away proudly I felt a cool metal right above my temple. I froze up in fright.

"Don't move",the voice said behind me.

As soon as brain registered a rolled my eyes;turning around I pushed Coleman away from me.

He laughed and pushed his gun in his waist;covering it up with his shirt.

"Are you out of your mind?,let me know idiot!"

"Oh come on,it was a harmless prank,chill out"

"Yeah putting a gun to my head is so 'harmless',why do you have that anyway?"

"For protection, hey E,when are we going to talk about what happened between u--"

"Never!!,th-the past is old and buried,no reason to dig it up".

"Era!!",I turned to see Donte out if breath and sweaty.

"Am fine,let's go",I said grabbing his wrist.

"So what;you dissing me for Donte now, we need to talk Era,I've missed you",he said stepping toward me,my insticts was to back away.

"No we don't",I said leaving my past behind me.

"Why so sweaty?",I asked D as the bell overhead yelled loudly.

"It's nothing serious, vice principal Mac was up my ass again"he said while adjusting his beanie.

"Stop cursing it gives me a headache"

"Yeah like you didn't curse at Coleman when you saw him",he said chuckling slightly.

"OK maybe I wanted to,but I didn't,he's just always doing something stupid to get himself killed, or locked up"

Donte shook his head.

"What?",I asked puzzled.

"Nothing it's just amazing how you can still care after all he put you through",he said walking me to my science class, we stopped at the close door. Late again.
