Craig's/Mini's POV

I have to escape before they get to me!!! I looked around for an exit. They're all blocked!!!! Wait a second... The vents!!! If the guys in the movies can do it than how hard can it be?  I looked up and noticed a rusty air vent. I groaned. I'm too short! Maybe if I jump high enough... But what about Cheyenne and her mom?! They wouldn't kill children would they?! Maybe I can go find some supplies than come back and save them and whoever is left! Yeah! Okay... I heavily breathed in and looked back at the air vent. I looked around to see if anyone was paying attention. The guards are too busy! Here's my chance! I need to hit it hard enough to break it, or at least pop it off it's hinges. I took another breath and jumped up and hit it as hard as I could. "Hey?! What are you doing?! Get him!!!" One of the guards yelled. I could hear the people in the subway systems cheering. "I'll be back for you all!" I screamed as I jumped into the vent. I crawled around the maze of vents until I felt something latch onto my leg. It's one of the guards! "You aren't going anywhere you little punk!" He shouted. I could hear the rustling of his partners behind him. Shit. "Get the fuck off me!" I yelled, kicking him until his grip loosened. I yanked my foot out of his grasp and crawled faster. I made a few twists and turns until I saw light. Yes! I looked back and noticed I had lost the guards. I smirked. Finally! I banged on the metal until it popped out of place. I stepped out and took a breath of the fresh air. I sighed and placed my hand on my forehead and wiped away the sweat that was beginning to drip down my face. I gasped when I realized what I was looking at. My city... It's... Destroyed. There's nothing left but ruins. What happened... Did the terrorists bomb the place? It doesn't matter! I need to get to my apartment! I think I have a gun stashed away somewhere in my closet. I darted down the street until I reached my apartment building. Ran past the numerous doors of my neighbors until I found mine. I shakily took my keys from my pocket and opened the door. I sprinted straight towards my closet, not bothering to shut the door back. I grabbed my emergency pistol and cocked it. I grabbed my backpack that I used back when I was in college and dumped all of the old papers out. I filled it with food, water, extra clothes, and ammo for my pistol. I turned to leave but noticed that someone was standing in front of my door with a knife. It's my neighbor, John! Thank god I'm not the only one that escaped. "John! You managed to escape too!" I yelled with a smile. "W-Who are you?! My name isn't John! I don't have a name!" John screamed. "Woah, easy buddy. Are you okay? What's wrong?" I asked while inching forward. He pointed his knife to my chest. "Get away from me!" He cried as he lunged at me. He tried to slit my throat. "Calm down, John!  It's me, Craig. I'm your neighbor..." I soothed. He lunged at me again. "John, don't make me do this!" I yelled with my pistol pointed to his head. He lunged again except this time he managed to slice my side. I screamed in pain and doubled over on the floor. My gun was shaking in my hand as he approached me. He bent down and gave me a wicked grin. He held the knife up in the air, but before it came down on me a closed my eyes and pulled the trigger. I felt something warm and wet land on my left cheek. I felt something heavy land on top of me followed by a clunk from metal hitting the hard wood floor. I opened my eyes to see John's lifeless body laying on me. I flung him off of me and shot up from the cold ground. Blood began to spill onto the floor. I grabbed his knife and slipped it into my bag. A tear fell from my face as I darted out the door. I just killed my neighbor... I just shot John!  He's dead... He didn't recognized me? He completely forgot who he was. What's going on?! First the bomb and now this?! This seems like something from a horror movie... Well, it doesn't matter now! What matters is that I find a safe place to camp out for a bit. I can't stay in one place for too long unless I'm far away from here. Maybe this is the only place that got wrecked. Maybe I can move away and forget this ever happened... I sighed. I didn't stop running until I tripped on something. I looked down and noticed a dead body. I jumped and crawled back. I took a few deep breaths and prepped myself for what I was about to do. I crawled back to him and searched for anything useful. As I was rummaging I found a heart-shaped necklace. I looked at it closer and noticed that it was one of those openable ones. Curiosity got the best of me so I opened it. I looked and the picture and vomited in my mouth. It was a picture of Cheyenne and her mother. Tears began to roll down my face. I took the heart and placed it in his lifeless hand. I closed his fist and placed it on his chest. I clenched my fists and ran to the nearest building. It was a run down office building. I ran up the emergency stairs that people used when the elevators stopped working. I stopped at the middle floor. I searched around for the safest place to set up camp after making sure no one was here. None of it looked safe so I just leaned against the back wall. I sunk down until my ass hit the ground. I closed my eyes and shivered. I didn't really think to bring a blanket... I re-opened my eyes and took my book bag off my back and flung it on my lap. I grabbed a hoody and slipped it on. Not much, but it'll be enough until I find a blanket.  I curled up into a ball and fell into the darkness of sleep.
