Nothing extraordinary happened since that night on the tower. Day after day, I've been doing my best to find some time to talk to George. Or at least get an explanation. But unfortunately doing that just became harder and harder to do.
One of my earliest childhood memories still haunts me. Last night whilst I was asleep, a dream (well, it was more like a memory) came flooding on me like never before. In that dream, I was about five years old and I could recall sitting on a patch of grass looking at other older kids playing. Behind me was a huge mossy building that just begged for some sunlight.
We all know that our magic abilities show at the age of seven, but I remember quite clearly doing strange things way before I reached that age. One of which was making my hair clips float an inch above my palm. And that was what led me to that awful day.
Going back to the dream, I was just minding my own business when out of nowhere a group of boys older by a few years, started throwing dirt at me. They kept calling me names. "Freak!" one lad would shout. "Monster!" cried another. With mud all over my tattered dress, I'd run inside the building only to be welcomed by another complication. An old skinny lady grabs me by the arm and hollers at me for getting my clothes all filthy. I try to explain to her that it wasn't my fault but there was no sound I could make. She then continues to punish me by telling me that nobody would ever want to take me as their own because I was a freak!
The next morning, which is today, I woke up in a puddle of sweat and tears.
"Staring into the abyss of nonexistence aren't we, Ms. Banon?" A low, contained voice spoke.
I snap out of my petty daydream and quickly looked up to merely get a view of Prof. Snape's large hooked nose, and his dark piercing eyes looking back at me with such disdain. I try to give him a small, unsure smile and he walks away from my desk to inspect the others. I try my best to concentrate on my work. On the table stands my cauldron and the ingredients for a Shrinking Solution. I read the instructions for the seventh time and then carefully add a splash of Cowbane.
At the end of Snape's class, I've heard of news that Sirius Black has been sighted near Hogwarts, and the Gryffindors lost a few points. A part of me was thankful that it wasn't my fault again. But the other half thought otherwise. I mean, it was unfair! Neville was obviously having trouble with his potion and if no one would help him, the consequences might have been worse. Oh, but what's the use of crying over spilled milk?
I didn't want to be late for the next class so I rushed down the stairs and walked towards Classroom 3C. As I am on my way to the aforementioned classroom, an older group of students walked by. They seem to be heading to their next class as well. But what stood out from the crowd was Fred and George's bright red hair.
Here's my chance! I can finally talk to-
"Hi Brianna!" the voice of a chirpy Angelina Johnson greeted. She was walking a few steps behind the twins. Her loud voice somehow made everyone stop dead in their tracks and look back at me. The twins do the same and they both give me a friendly wave of the hand. A part of me got a little disappointed knowing what happened between us. But what else did I expect? I began to debate whether I should say something to them or not, which resulted to me opening and closing my mouth like a fish out of water.
