As soon as everyone has left, Joe goes back to ignoring me so I go downstairs and grab my laptop.
I surf the internet for a cheap car rental deal. I didn't have any luck before I left though. They all looked really dodgy. I look up as a loud noise erupts from Joe's phone. He quickly turns down the sound, and then looks at me. I turn my attention back to my laptop, but I shiver goes down my spine. The ones you get when you know someone is watching you.
I turn my attention back to Joe and as I do so he quickly looks down.
"What's your problem?" I ask. "I can tell you are waiting to make some snide remark about me. I can't believe Zoe told you," I mumble to last part under my breath.
"Nothing. And I'm not going to say anything. I'm just surprised that's all. I expected a different answer." Then he mumbles something under his breath but I hear him.
He said, "I mean look at you."
I don't know how to react to this. Half the time that I've been here, although it hasn't been very long, has been spent with Joe ignoring me and making smart ass comments. But now all of a sudden he's being nice. I don't get him.
"Ok... can you do me a favour and not bring it up again please. It's kinda embarrassing," I ask.
"Sure. Sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable..."
Then he gets up and walks towards me, well not specifically me but the kitchen.
I hear the coffee pot boil and Joe slides a mug towards me.
"What are you looking for?" he asks.
"I'm in desperate need of a car. I don't want to have to depend on people to drive me around or catch the tube or a cab all the time."
"Just borrow mine."
"Why all of a sudden are you being so nice to me?" I ask
"I'm always nice," Joe smirks.
I shut the lid of my laptop, giving up on my search for the night, and put it to the side.
"So when do you think Caspar will be back?" I ask, getting up off of the stool and sitting on the couch. Joe follows and sits beside me. I shuffle sideways on the couch, putting a larger gap between us then there already was.
"Probably at like 6 or 7. He tends to stay out all night," Joe replies.
A moment of silence follows.
"So how'd you and Caspar meet?" I ask, breaking it.
"Well Oli introduced us."
"What that's it?"
"Yep," he says with a smirk, "No backstory, no rambling. And nothing deep and meaningful that sounds like it's come straight out of someone's diary."
"Shut up," I say punching him in the arm.
Before I realise what is happening or have a second to react, Joe's lips collide with mine. They taste like spearmint. I am startled at first but as our lips mould together and he slips his tongue between mine, I kiss back harder than before.
I pull away for a second to catch my breath as I'm still in shock from what just happened.
"Sorry," he mumbles, lowering his head as he turns away. I grab onto is shoulders and turn him back to face me.
"Just shut up and kiss me," I say.
He obliges and our lips connect again. Joe leans forwards into me and I'm forced to lie back on the couch. Joe pulls away and makes a trail of kisses up my jaw towards my ear and down my neck. He lingers on the soft skin under my ear for a while, before moving back to my mouth.
