I heard the footsteps, as I predicted, outside. Matt slowly approached the window and looked in at me, smiling. "Clever girl." I smiled back and nodded. "Or are you?" I was confused, but that was probably what he wanted. "I have my axe now." He said, holding it in his right hand, "And did you ever notice that this entire mansion is made of wood?" I was silent, my face was pale. I thought I was safe, that this was a good plan. But did I really think he'd just run away after discovering I hadn't left? "This is your last chance. Come with me peacefully or make me drag your body with me." I looked around the room, there was nowhere for me to go, nothing to do, but wait. I nodded, and walked up to the window, looking up at him, eyes full of defeat. He smiled and reached his hand in, I grabbed it and he pulled me up, out into the woods. "Again, clever girl." Matt said, pulling me back to the pages. We walked past the front of the mansion, I saw the front door broken all over the ground. I could see the kitchen from here, I looked back at my arm, being tightly held by Matt. I looked back at the kitchen, if I could get a knife. Matt continued to drag me away, I sighed, I'm dying anyways. I raised my leg and kicked his arm, he instantly let go and I ran. I didn't dare look back, I ran into the mansion and into the kitchen. A rush of adrenaline ran up my spine as I gripped a large knife. I turned and faced it towards Matt, who was only one foot away from me, and smiling. I instantly noticed the axe was missing from his hands. He looked at the knife in my hands, "Oh yes, what good that did." Matt said, sarcastically, I was confused, until I saw the blood at my feet. That wasn't adrenaline that rushed up my spine. It was pain. From Matt's axe. I slightly turned around and saw the handle sticking out of my back. Just seeing that made the pain return to my body and I fell to the ground. Matt pulled the axe out of my back, "And this could've been so easy." Matt said. "But I'm glad. It's more fun this way." He laughed, but I barely heard it, everything was slowly fading away.

I saw the moon, hanging high in the night sky. It's usual bright glow was dim to my eyes. "Charlotte? You're awake?" I heard Matt ask, I couldn't move, I looked at my arms, there were deep slits down them, with blood everywhere. I tried to talk, but I only coughed out blood. Matt walked over to me and bent down to look at me, "Oh, sorry kid. I guess I missed your heart when I swung my axe." he chuckled lightly. I finally gained the energy to speak, "What's all this? What are you doing?" Matt pulled a piece of paper out of his backpack and showed it to me. "Back in my old town there was a little rhyme we all knew but none understood, before I went totally crazy I wrote it down. I thought if I followed what it said then I would be able to find Slenderman, but now I think it's the way out." Matt read it aloud, "If you want answers, pay the price. You must give us a sacrifice. Slay a beast and a virgin. And we will let you go to another dimension. But beware, if this is done wrong. We will take your sanity and move along. If you continue to not do this right. We will take you away, in the dead of night." Matt put the paper away, I was completely shocked. "What do you mean 'Slay a beast'? You said Slenderman was still alive!" I growled, Matt laughed, "And how else was I supposed to convince you to come with me? Now, if only you would die.." I thought to myself, I had to find a way out of this. I was a virgin, but he didn't know that. "You know, Matt. This isn't going to work." I said, praying he wouldn't see my bluff, he rolled his eyes, "I know, 'I'm crazy! That's just a stupid rhyme to scare kids!' I've heard it already." Matt picked up his axe, "No, that's not what I mean! I'm not a virgin!" I lied. Matt lowered his axe in shock, "What?..." I had to think of a good enough lie, "The reason I ran away is because my parents grounded me for hooking up with my boyfriend." I said, hoping my poker face would fool him, almost all of that was a lie, I didn't have a boyfriend, and I was a virgin. I could see a shred of fear on Matt's face, then embarrassment. "Wow. What are you? 16? I'm 35 and haven't even talked to a woman." I suddenly got an idea, he was a virgin, if I killed him. I could go home? I wasn't sure, I didn't kill a beast. But Matt was a beast, a child murderer. This was my only shot, I didn't have any other ideas. I looked back at the slits in my arms, I wished that Slender were here the heal them, but I knew I had to be strong on my own this time.
