Disclaimer: I don't own HetaliaTick, tock. The clock reached closer and closer to ten o'clock. Tick, tock. Arthur turned the page of his book. He leaned back on the couch a little more. Everyone else had gone to bed, so early, he didn't understand. Tick, tock. The bored country carefully put his bookmark in and set the book down on the table. He stood up and quietly snuck into kitchen. A snack, that's what he needed, then he would sleep. He was sure of it.
Arthur reached for the handle on the fridge, before he could open the door, the phone started ringing. "Bloody hell." He hissed to himself, wondering who could possibly be calling at this time. He picked up the phone, pressing it to his ear.
"Hello?" He mumbled, sounding slightly annoyed.
"Daddy?" The voice on the other end sounded scared and upset. It was one that Arthur hadn't heard in years. Something was wrong, this was a joke, it had to be.
"Alfred." He whispered, he would play alone with his little joke. For now.
"I-i wanna go home." He sounded like he was holding back tears. Arthur knew it now. This wasn't a game, or one of his sick jokes. Something horrible had happened. He wasn't going to wait to hear what it was.
"I'm on my way." He said calmly and threw the phone lazily on the counter before slipping on his shoes and going straight to America's house.
When he got there, he immediately opened the door and walked straight to the living room. The house was a mess, but he didn't care. He walked through the empty doorway and found the normally jaunty country curled up on the couch, tears streaming down his cheeks and blanket wrapped around him.
"Let's go home." Arthur helped Alfred up and led him slowly to the car. He brought them to his house, Alfred didn't stop crying, not once, for the whole trip.
The two countries curled up on the couch. Arthur held Alfred tightly, letting him cry into his shoulder. Not once did he ask what happened.
Alfred eventually cried himself to sleep. They stayed together until the sun rose up over the horizon. Arthur left him to sleep, he had a long day after all. He went to the kitchen and started the kettle, then went to get the paper. It was only when he saw the front page of the paper he truly understood. Alfred could stay as long as he wanted. He could stay forever for all he cared.
New York, USA in ruins. North Korea nuclear bombs city. Millions dead, and even more missing.
