I've killed before. He was a man that attacked Luca, when I was younger. He was a hunter. They are the abomination, not us. No good human will go out hunting a species, which means no harm, that are trying to fit in. After what happened in the classroom, I've had to add another 3 to the list. I couldn't even look at Mason, afterward. I ran. I ran from the class and ran from the impending doom that is the law.
When we were found out, it was stated that if any Sparkline were to lay a forceful hand on a human, they were to be put to death. But now..? I don't care, I laugh in the face of death. My dad always taught me to never be afraid or fear death, because we are always threatened with it and to the humans, our lives don't matter.
Running out of the school, my wings ripped through my skin for the second time today. I stretched them out. God! It felt good I thought. I ran faster and took off. I've always had a need, a want, to feel the wind in my wings and to fly away from my problems. It was always faster to fly then it was to run, and right now, I needed to get home as fast as I could.
Landing, I saw that the front door was left wide open. "Fuck!" I shouted "no. no.no" I chanted. I ran through the front door, to find Luca or dad. At this time all I wanted was to know what had happened. A heard a crash of glass come from the kitchen, I tiptoed into the kitchen and saw Luca cleaning up a spilled glass of water from the bench. "What are you doing here?" Luca asked. Luca was always good at knowing where I was and if I was sneaking up on him. I swear he had a sixth sense. Luca stood up from the floor and pointed to the dining room table. "Sit", he told me, "What did they do?" again... he knows EVERYTHING!!
I told Luca everything that happened in the day, from the date, to running in the front door. "So, Mason, huh?" I jumped at the sound of my dad's voice. "Not very long" Dad replied to my unasked question of how long he'd been standing there.
"Don't do that." I told my dad, but I know it wouldn't work, he'd probably do it later tonight. He laughed and walked over to kiss Luca on the head. "I told you we need to leave." Luca said to dad, "this can get very bad very quickly, if we don't do anything." My dad always knew what was right.
"Fine," he huffed, "Addy, go upstairs and pack a bag of essentials, we can buy other stuff along the way."
"But Dad, I can't just leave," I knew it wasn't safe here anymore but I had loved ones here, "where are we going anyway?" I already knew but was unnerved to hear the answer.
"tutum portum." Luca said smiling.
