“So Suzannah, what number are we today?”
“Please… It’s Anna…” I gave a nervous laugh and tugged on the cuffs of my jumper. “Today’s probably a seven.” I lied. It was most likely a four or a five. “Really?” Dr. Phillips pushed her glasses further up her nose and smiled at me comfortingly. She knew better. I nodded my head and smiled nonetheless. “Well, regardless I still think our sessions should continue…” I frowned angrily and folded my arms tightly while she filled out my absence slip for school. “But… That can’t happen. I won’t be here next Thursday. I’m leaving this weekend…” Three more days and I’ll be rid of this hellhole. “Nevertheless, Suzannah, I think it’s best if we continue. I’m certain we still have a lot of work to do together…” She watched my panicked eyes and smiled softly, removing her glasses and tearing the slip from the pad. “Your grandmother is willingly continuing to pay the fees.” I rolled my eyes. “Of course she is, you know what she’s like, she’s doing it out of guilt.” Dr. Phillips gave me a sympathetic smile. “I understand. However, judging by the time I suggest we continue this conversation next week.” I muffled the grunt of: There shouldn’t be a next week. She extended the slip and I snatched it out of her hands before grabbing my purse and hurry out of the room. As I closed the door behind me I heard a, “Take care!” Being politely called after me.
