Chapter 4

“That's it!” I stopped, my feet left small five inch craters in the ground as I pulled her off my back.

“I-” she giggled again, “can't help it. It's fun,” she mumbled between her giggling fits. I held back a growl that was growing in my rib cage. I put on a sickly sweet smile and her giggles stopped; fear filling the air.

“You know I can kill you, right?” I could hear the light gulp that emanated from her throat. She knew it alright.

“Yes.” Her voice came out lower than a whisper. It could easily have been swept away with the wind that was whirling around us. An impatient growl left my burning throat.

“Are you going to 'giggle' again?” I inwardly shuttered at the word 'giggle'. It was bad enough to think the word, but saying it was worse.

“No,” she heaved with a sigh. Within the blink of an eye, we were going again. I was glad for my speed. It kept the smell of her away from my nose. I had been on edge since we'd left this morning.

It was afternoon already, but the phrase 'the daylight's burning' didn't matter to me. I wouldn't stop until we got there. I hated traveling by day, but I preferred to save night for killing.

“I'm hungry,” her growling stomach accompanied my low growl.

“You have those Sun Chips.”

“I dropped them.” I stopped again but this time with a hiss.

“When?” She hopped off my back and lightly tottered on her feet in a perfect rhythm.

“A little while back,” she mumbled. My mouth dried as heat flooded her cheeks, flushing them with a light pink. Half of me was tempted to just kill her and drink her blood, but the other half was telling me to wait and I'd have it for a longer time.

Her small cough brought me out of my self feuding. Her right eye brow was arched, leaving her with a confused look. I quickly looked at my hand, realizing it felt warm; too warm.

My hand was lightly gripping her neck. It took everything in me not to crush her throat at that moment.

“I'll get it.” I ran. I didn't stop until I couldn't smell her anymore. My throat missed the thrill of smelling her every waking moment, while I did not.

I continued onward, trying to forget her scent, searching for the stupid bag of chips.

I could sense their presence. The way my back lurched forward, in a catlike way, my eyes honed in on their path. I was surprised they came my way. All vampires avoided others at all costs, for fear of dying by one of their own.

The first was a man, who was at least twenty. His brown hair was tossed to perfection, giving him the look as if he'd been out in the wind. It didn't match his overly white skin. Purple and blue veins could be seen throughout his whole body that was visible. His eyes were a glowing copper color; a huge sign that he was thirsty.

The second was a man, older than the first. I could tell he had been around longer than 800 years because of his skin that had an ashy grey tone. You could still make out the faint view of his veins that crawled up his arms. His eyes were burning with a smoldering red, even the veins in the white were set a glow.

From their royal blue polo's to their dark blue jeans, I could tell they were American.

“Where's the best place for a 'snack'?” The first one asked.

“This is my area; leave.” I growled lowly.

“He smells of human.” The other observed and gave me a hungry look.

“Leave now or I'll kill you.” Growls rose from their throats and they launched themselves at me.

I grabbed the old man's arm and sent a blow to his head with my fist. The brown haired man hit my back and I flipped, throwing him toward the nearest tree. I picked the old man up by his throat and crushed it with a twitch of my fingers.

I slammed my ring into his upper left part of his ribcage, killing him instantly. I looked around to find the brown haired man running in the little girl's direction.

I took off after him, rage making me faster. She was mine. I overtook him within a minute and followed the girl's scent.

“Foolish girl,” I muttered. She must have walked off a little ways. I found her thirty feet away from where I had left her. I did a high kick to the man's chest, giving me enough time to grab her and run.

I ran straight to the nearest house, knowing he wouldn't be able to get in unless invited. For that, I was thankful I wasn't in my own country or I wouldn't be allowed into a house without being asked in.

I jumped through the top window, glass shattering against my skin. I knew the girl was hurt by the scent of her blood and her screams of pain.

“Stay.” My eyes locked with his copper ones as he stared longingly at her through the open window frame. His tongue lolled over his lips as he watched her shuttering body.

I sent a kick to his face, making him flip down to the ground. I took that as an opportunity to hop back out the window.

“What's your name? I love knowing the names of the ones I kill,” he hissed. His voice like a snake; his s's came out in slow hisses.

“Savva Isaak Rusakov,” I used my full accent. “Now you know your killers name.” We ran at each other, we collided, hard, a loud cracking sound echoed off the trees before I sent him flying towards one.

“You're good, but I'm better,” his voice roared with the wind. I rolled my eyes as he charged at me, yet again. His arms stretched out towards me. Just before he was about to touch me, I grabbed his arm and sent a hard blow to his chest with my fist.

He hissed out of pain and locked his dislocated shoulder back into place.

“I will have her!” He roared and launched himself at me again. I moved from where I was standing at the last moment and slammed him into the ground.

“Don't let the blood pollute your mind and you will still loose.” I snarled and stomped on his head with my bare foot. The ground shook as his head went in deeper with every twitch of a toe.

His hands found my foot and started to claw and squeeze it. I hissed and wrenched my foot away just before he broke it.

“I'm done playing,” I snarled and grabbed him by the neck in less than a millisecond and stuck my ring deep into his ribcage. He howled, snarled, kicked, and growled but I didn't stop until my hand went straight through his stone-like ribcage.

I drug his body back to where the older one was. I took a tattered packet of matches out of my pocket and lit one. I lit the younger one's hair and dropped the match on the older ones face.

Immediately it sunk into his skin. I've always been intrigued with the way fire sunk into my kind's body. It was like a hole of sinking sand, engulfing anything that came it's way.

I waited till their bodies were completely burned before I crushed their bones. The snaps echoed through my mind as I went back to the girl.

“Stupid, stupid girl,” I muttered over and over again. She only caused trouble, but her blood was too sweet for me to kill her.

“Please, just take the pain,” was her first wish once I made it through the window. Her arms were covered in blood and glass. I could see over a hundred glass slivers embedded in her arms.

With an annoyed sigh, I began to pick out the hundreds of shredded glass.
