Rue
Chapter 3
I was surprised when her body just slumped to the floor without a care in the world. Her eyes closed and her breathing slowed, becoming even with the perfect beats of her heart. She had some kind of musical way to her, but I didn't know exactly how.
I pressed my nose to her forehead and laughed when her breaths came out edgier. I licked up the blood on her arms and sealed her wounds with a flick of my tongue. I stood back to look at her.
Her brown hair was cluttered all around her face as it pressed into the floor. Her body shuttered, making me realize that she'd need different clothes since she ruined her nightgown.
I picked her up in my arms and hissed when her arms instantly wrapped around my neck. I removed my arms, hoping to drop her, but was disappointed when her body hung from where she held my neck. I didn't like humans touching me.
Their warm skin felt like fire against mine. One of the main reasons I loved it when they were dead; they were cold. I unlinked her hands from behind my neck and let her fall to the floor. She let out a small whimper, but I didn't care.
I ran up and back down the stairs carrying a blanket I grabbed from one of the numerous spare rooms. I felt disgusted with myself, which was something I normally didn't feel. I felt like a stupid fool, caring for a girl.
I dropped the blanket over her and left the house. It was dark out again. I always had preferred the night to the day, and it wasn't just because of the sun.
Night was what humans feared most. Every where I went at night, I could smell the scent. I would inhale the smell as if it was blood.
I shook my head. She's messing with my mind, I thought angrily. The scent of her blood around me was too overwhelming. I needed to hunt; to kill.
I ran towards the outskirts of the woods happily. The thought of killing made my eyes glow a bright red.
I listened for the sound of a beating heart and found two not too far away from the woods. Well, at least I won't be gone too long, I thought. I could hear their voices grow louder, in rage.
“You stupid woman! I told you not to eat in the living room and you did.” The man was obviously drunk as he staggered after he slapped her.
“I didn't mean to, you wouldn't let me in the kitchen or dining room.” Sobs were making her whole body shake. Her face was puffy, a deep purple and black deemed the color on her cheek where he had slapped her.
“I don't want excuses, I should just sell you to Henry.” He slapped her again as her eyes widened. Fear hit the air like a thick wave. Whoever this Henry guy was, he had to be pretty scary. Maybe I will be out late tonight, I thought with a smile.
“No, not Henry! I'm sorry, it won't happen again, please.” She begged on her hands and knees, pulling on his pant leg.
“Oh no, I think I will take you to Henry.” He laughed drunkenly. I kind of like the guy, I thought as he yanked her up from the ground by her hair. A scream left her lips, making her receive another hard slap. Blood fell from her cheek this time.
My tongue moved around on the inside of my mouth, wanting desperately to taste it. It was a disappointing thought, knowing that her blood wouldn't be as good as the girls'.
I followed close behind, laughing every time a cry escaped her lips. I loved watching humans in pain. It was fascinating, since I couldn't 'feel' pain.
