Chapter 1-

Libby-

The summer sun hits my face as I left the little coffee shop, on the corner of my school. It warmed my face. I closed my eyes clutching my coffee, I love the sun. It shone only sometimes, as the smog of New York covered the sky. I’m 16 now, and I have a scholarship at the best Performing Arts School in the country. My parents, Danielle and Paul, couldn’t afford it so I applied for the scholarship and got it.  The school is on the Upper East Side, so there were a few bitchy people. But I have learnt to deal with them.

“Libby” came a voice I immediately recognized coming from my left. I opened my eyes and saw Dan my boyfriend.

“Hey” I said wrapping my free arm around his neck and kissed his lips.

“How was your day?” he asked

“it was okay” I replied taking his hand as we started to walk towards Brooklyn where we both lived. I took a sip of my coffee and asked “how was yours?” .  Dan is an intern at the New York Times newspaper for the summer; he is an amazing writer and is on the way to being an Author one day. Yes he is 3 years older than me and goes to college, but really, Dan is a nerd. A big nerd, and that’s why I love him. He’s going somewhere in his life.

“it was good” he says smiling. I love his smile; it makes his eyes crinkle up at the side at his temples. My parents adore Dan. And his parents like me, I think. His sister, real sister is the same age as well but doesn’t live at home she lives with her Mother in Hudson. But his step brother and sister live at home. Serena Van Der Woodsen, is like a queen of the Upper East Side, next to her best friend Blair Waldof. I am good friends with Serena and Blair, since I have been going out with Dan. Dan and Serena used to date, before their parents got together. Long story, which I won’t go too much into.  They day I met Dan’s parents, I went round to have brunch with them. It’s something that Upper East Siders do a lot according to Dan. Lily Van Der Woodsen, was lovely to me.

“Hi, I’m Lily” she said holding out her hand.

“Hi, nice to finally meet you” I said returning her gesture. Eric, Serena’s brother, and Rufus, Dan’s Father, were equally nice. After we had eaten and were just talking, Serena and I swopped numbers so we could hang out and get to know each other better. I left but Dan told me what they said about me, and I was glad to know that they all liked me, but they thought I was a bit young for Dan.

We sat in the cab chatting away all the way to my parents’ house where the cab dropped me off. I said goodbye to Dan and kissed him.

“Bye Libby” Said Dan kissing me back. I smiled and walked towards our apartment block. Our apartment block wasn’t nice, and it then it wasn’t cruddy. It was just a simple, normal apartment. I put my key in the door and unlocked the front door to our actual apartment. As If on cue, Jack our little Jack Russell came scooting up to me. “Hey boy” I said bending down to pat him. I then looked on the bench to find a note from Mom.

Hey Honey! Get started on your homework, but if you can, could you get some vegetables ready to cook when I get back?

Thanks Hun, Love Mom xx

I smiled, she writes the same note all the time. Shouldn’t she know by now that I know the drill? Mom works late as a Chef in a restaurant Called “The Garden” in Brooklyn. She hopes to one day own her own restaurant on The Upper East Side. Dad, on the other hand, is a no so successful lawyer. He works with the Teenagers that are getting put in Juvi.

I screwed up the note and put it in the bin. “Don’t need that anymore do we Jack?” I said putting my bag down and getting out my books.  You would think going to a Performing Arts school would be all Performing and such, it is, but we also have to do the other subjects like Maths and English. Ever since I was little, I danced and sang. I didn’t do much singing anymore because it reminds me to much of him. Shaking my head I start on maths. Half an hour later, I’m bored of Maths and decide to make dinner.  Jack, who was sitting at my feet, now follows me to the kitchen. I’m cutting carrots when Mom walks in.

“Hey Honey! Thanks for getting that started for me!” said Danielle, My Mom.

“No problem Mom” I said taking one of the carrot pieces and putting it in my mouth. Jack looked restless, and then I remembered. Normally I get home earlier and take Jack for a walk. “Mom, I’m going to take jack for a walk. I won’t be long” I said grabbing his leash.

“Okay Hunny be careful” she said to involved to look up from her carrots.

I clipped his leash on and left the Apartment. Dad was just walking up the stairs. “Hey Kiddo” he said

“Hey Dad, just taking Jack out” I said walking straight past him, down the stairs. Paul smiled. “Righto Kiddo”

Jack and I got onto the street, and took a left. It was getting a bit dark I thought. “Jack we are just going to be going for a short walk okay? It’s dark and I don’t like the dark”. Jack looked up at me, his eyes pleading for more time on our walk. I roll my eyes “Fine 10mins more. And that’s it!”. He looks down and starts sniffing the ground.

As we are walking, I look at all the big buildings around. I see an advertisement on a building, and guess who it was of. Justin. To advertise his new Perfume. Anger boils up inside of me, but I know it’s all in the past. But I couldn’t help but think does he remember me? Garr I shouldn’t be thinking about this.  I hate him, I hate him “I HATE HIM” I shouted, then realising I hate spoke the words out loud I covered my mouth, and Jack looked at me funny. “Sorry boy” I said bending down to pat him. We continued walking. Why am I dwelling on this now, when I haven’t talked or seen him in 6 years?
