CHAPTER 3

STONE

"Have you found her?" Stone asked his tracker Franklin, who answered "Yes...our spies caught her in Texas. She was headed into werewolf territory so we couldn't follow."

Stone slammed his fist down on the table which broke under the force. "I want her at any cost and I want her now. Find a wolf that will help you and do it quick. I don't want Lucas to find out about this. He's already suspicious." With that Stone walked out of the room.

AVA

Ava sat on the grass behind Ethan's house waiting for the sun to rise. Lily had shown her to the guest bedroom and left without saying a word. Ava tossed and turned but was unable to fall asleep so she was outside.

As she sat there Ava felt a tingle in her mind that told her that Ethan was waking up. She felt his pain...his thoughts on his mother...missing. Ava felt tears well up in her eyes. She thought of her parents and brother...her pain adding to his, her body shook as she cried. Ava's thoughts being on his mother and her family, she didn't hear Ethan's footsteps as he walked through the backdoor.

ETHAN

Ethan froze as he walked through the door the backdoor. His eyes on the figure sitting in the middle of the backyard. He could see it was a girl...crying. Ethan walked toward her and froze again. The raising sun shone on the girl's hair making it sparkle...Ava...he realized.

 Except for Ava's sobs silence surrounded them. Ethan took another step toward her only to step on a dry leaf causing Ava's head to snap up. She stared at him for a split second them jumped up and run.

Ethan stood there shocked. Distantly he could hear Lily calling him so he went back inside and headed toward the kitchen.

"Ava's not in her room!" Lily half shouted as she sprinted down the stairs.

"I know." Ethan replied as Lily rounded the corner into the kitchen."I went out back and saw her crying and when she heard me she ran away."

"What did you do that girl?" Lily imitated their mother.

"Nothing!" Ethan exclaimed, surprised at Lily's tone of voice.

Lily laughed and went to prepare breakfast."How's bacon and eggs with orange juice sound?"

Ethan nodded distractedly, his thoughts on Ava again. She ran very fast in her human form,even for a wolf. Why was she crying,Ethan thought to himself. Ethan came back to the present with a jolt as Lily placed his breakfast in front of him an playfully tapped him on his head.

"We have to find a way to help her." Ethan said out loud unintentionally.
Lily turned around to look at him."Who...Ava?"she asked knowingly.

Ethan sighed and nodded then started to eat.

AVA

Ava silently walked back into the Alpha's house hoping not to run into Lily or Ethan. But no such luck, she ran into Lily on the stairs

"Are you ok? Ethan said you were crying." Lily asked, concerned.

Ava nodded.

"Well ok why don't you come into the kitchen and I'll make you something to some brunch." Lily said as she started down the stairs but stopped when Ava placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Thanks but I already ate." Ava said then turned and went to her room. Once there Ava stripped and took a shower. After dressing she lay on the bed and soon fell asleep with the thought, finely I'm home, on her mind.

ETHAN

Ethan walked out of the office frustrated.

"What's up?" Lily asked coming into the house with a watering can in her hand.

Ethan sighed defeated."I've talked to all the packs surrounding the area mom went missing but none of them knows anything. I don't know what to do."

Lily walked up to her brother and hugged him. "We'll figure something out. Why don't you go the the area where mom disappeared and see if you find any clues. You know your senses are stronger than anyone else here."

Ethan nodded."Ok."

"Can I come too?" A voice asked.

Ethan and Lily turned their heads and saw Ava at the top of the stairs.

"You want to go?" Lily asked.

Ava nodded and started down the stairs."I did say that if you anything don't hesitate to ask and I heard that your parents are missing so I want to help."

Ava stopped in front of Ethan. "Why?" He asked her.

Ava answered "Because I wanna help. Think of it as repayment for your protection and help i you want."

Ethan turned and walked toward the door. "Ok you can come."

Lily followed Ava and Ethan to his pickup truck and said to them both "Be careful...both of you."

Ethan nodded and pulled out of the driveway.
