It was 7 months after Derek Shepherd's funeral and everyone was still trying to get to terms with what happened. Meredith had told everyone about the tragedy only three weeks before the funeral but had left suddenly the day after burying her beloved husband. Alex kept ringing her to see if her and the kids were alright but she never picked up.
People were all coping with the events of the year differently. Amelia couldn't help but hate Meredith every time she thought about how she would never see her brother again. "How could she not call me? He was my brother!" She would say to herself every walking moment of the day.
Alex was upset about Derek dying but he was most concerned about his best friend. "Where is she? Is she OK? Why won't she answer the phone?" All these questions would be in his head all day long.
For Callie and Arizona it dug up the memories of the plane crash years before. For Callie it was losing her best friend and the father of her child. For Arizona it was being in the woods and hearing Meredith cry for Lexie and then having Mark (who she had now got to know and like) die on her and Callie and Sophia.
Doctor Miranda Bailey was worried for Meredith. She had been her intern. She was family and now they can't get hold of her. She had raised Meredith and helped her become an extraordinary surgeon, she just wanted to know that Meredith was alright.

And then there was Meredith. She had lost her husband, the father of her children and the love of her life. She had ran away to escape the memories of her husband that were all over the hospital, to escape all the sorrowful stares that came with the loss of a loved one. She couldn't cope so she ran. And wouldn't you in her situation? She was raising two beautiful children in a city she didn't know with a child on the way. One day she was at home with her kids, Bailey was taking a nap when she felt a stabbing pain in her stomach and then there was blood, lots of blood.
"Zola, c-call 911" she stuttered "hurry"
Her daughter picked up the phone and dialed the number "Help me" she cried "my mummy is bleeding." She gave them her address and 3 minutes later an ambulance arrived and took her mother, her and Bailey to the hospital.
Meredith woke up some time later in the hospital. Her two oldest children sleeping on the sofas in her room. A nurse came in handed a beautiful little baby girl and left. She looked down and her littler miracle baby and knew what her name was: Ellis. She spent some time with her new daughter memorizing all of her features that look a lot like her husbands and then put her in her cot and she was taken back up to the nursery.
A women came in a little while later and said "Dr Grey your husband is here."
