Chapter 1- The Letter
Brrrinnnggggg!!!!! Huh? 'What the heck is that noise' I thought sleepily. Brrriiinnggg!!
There it is again!!! I opened my eyes slowly and watched as my vision soon focused on my
annoying alarm clock. I sighed heavily. Another day that I have to go out in the world and find bad
guys. Another day of heartbreak and disappointment due to the fact that I can't find the killer of their
loved ones or just can't find someone who doesn't want to be found.
I sighed again as I reached over and turned off the alarm clock from hell. I jumped up
out of my bed and walked over to my closet. I opened the door and pulled out my attire for the day,
which is just a simple suit. I took a quick shower and changed fast because I really don't want to be
late again. I got dressed and looked at myself in the mirror. Nice dark suit with a blue tie. I smiled.
Matches my blue eyes and black hair. I sighed once again and picked up my gun and strapped it to
my holster and then grabbed my badge that read 'Detective Patrick Green of the Granite Creek
Police Department'.
I walked out to my garage and to my car. I smiled proudly at it. The one thing in my life that
makes it worth wild. My baby. My black 1967 Shelby Cobra GT500 that I, personally, restored by
myself. I got in and pressed the garage door opener and backed out, then headed off to work.
****Time lapse****
I pulled up in to my parking place at GCPD and got out. Not a second later my best friend since
child hood pulls up next to me. "Yo Green what's up?" Dallas asked me.
"Not much Stewart. Don't we go through this everyday? You ask me that everyday and i give
you the same answer everyday" i chuckled.
He looked me square in the eye before answering me "And your point?" I shook my head
laughing as I walked in to the station. "Green!!!" Chief Tanner yelled. Oh joy. Its only, i looked down
at my watch, 8:04am and the Chief's ridin' my ass already. "Sir?" I replied respectfully.
"I got a case of a missing girl for you. Her name is Rose Miller. Here is the file for the case. Get on it!!" He barked.
I hate working cases like this because it always ends in tragic ways. Why couldn't it have
been a missing dog instead of a person. "I'll see you later bro I got get started on this case" he
nodded his head sadly and walked to his desk. I opened the file and read 'Rose Miller missing for
72 hours. Last seen in her room sleeping.' I flipped through the file for something more useful
when I came across " The parents James and Lisa Miller said that she has left a note of her
whereabouts but have decided to keep it with them.'
Hmm that's interesting. I flipped through the file and found their address "1754 Scottsdale
Dr.' I think i'll head over there now.
*****Time lapse*****
I pulled into the Millers driveway and got out. I walked up to the door and rang the door bell a
couple of times. A lady answered the door. "May I help you?" she asked.
"Mrs. Miller?"
"Yes that's me but who are you?"
I pulled out my badge and showed her "Hello i'm Detective Green from GCPD and I've been
assigned to help find your daughter ma'am." She looked and me for a second then opened the
door "Come on in we have been expecting someone to come down". I walked passed her and into
her living room where I assume Mr. Miller is waiting. I was right. "Hello may I assume your
Mr.Miller?"
He smiled a sad smile before replying "Yes sir that's me and I'm assuming, since I heard, your
Detective Green."
"That's right Mr.Miller. Now my main reason for coming here is because I heard that your
daughter left a letter, correct?"
"That's correct." Mrs. Miller replied from behind me.
"Have you read the letter?" I asked. I looked around processing my surroundings and noticed
pictures lotS of them of Rose Miller.
"No we haven't."
I looked up curious. Why would they not read a letter that might help them understand where their
daughter is.
"Because the letter isn't for us." What the heck.
"Who is the letter to then?"
"It says on the envelope 'To the Detective assigned to my case' " Mr.Miller told me as he handed me
the envelope. I took it shakily . I opened it and pulled out the letter and read it:
Dear Detective,
My name is Rose Miller. I bet your wondering why am I writing to you instead of my loved ones, but
you see if I did they would try to stop me. No I am not dead. Yet. I will be soon because I plan to kill
myself. Why you ask? Its simple really. I don't belong in this world. My world is in fast forward it
seems. Not really seeing, hearing, feeling. Just nothing. I'm a outcast. A freak living in a world that
doesn't want me to fit in. Most people in this world are blind. Blind to see whats in front of them. To
see what was theirs the whole time but either failed to notice it or its worth. People don't notice me,
Detective, they never will. What's my destiny? My fate? Why am I alive? What do I have to live for?
These questions are for you to find out because, Detective, you have a week to answer those. A
week to find me and tell me those answers, if you don't I will kill myself. If you don't get to me in time
I guess I already know my fate.
Till next time,
Rose Miller
PS. The next clue to find me is located at the place where every child dreads.
Crap. I have to find this girl and save her from herself before it's to late.
