Niall's POV
Aibhlinn and myself boarded a plane to Liverpool so we could travel to Chesire to see her mum. Julianne had always been like a second mum to me, and Jamie had been like my other dad. I loevd them both so much and it was very sad to think that Julianne is fighting for her life and Jamie has already lost that fight.
Aibhlinn was very quiet on the plane, and on the 30 minute drive to the hospital. I knew she was upset so I didn't want to make her feel awkward, I kept quiet. We were at the hospital in no time at all.
The receptionist let us in to the waiting room, soon we were called to see Julianne after about 5 minutes. Aibhlinn held onto my hand as we walked through the door to her room.
Aibhlinn's POV
I held onto Niall as we walked through my mum's room. She was on the bed, asleep. She was connected to so many machines, I nuzzled my head into Niall's chest. The sight of my mum made me upset. I continued to look at her, the beeping of the machine annoyed my ears, my mum looked so hurt. She had so many cuts and scars on her face and body. I began to cry, i couldn't hold it in any longer. My mum wasn't old but she wasn't as young as she once was. Now she has to continue her life without her husband. My sobs began to get louder, it woke Mum up.
She sat up, I smiled at her, "Mum!" I walked over to give her a hug, her eyes widened, when I reached the side of her bed she coward away. "Mum? It's me." She just shook her head. "It's me, Aibhlinn?" she looked away.
"My daughter is a baby." she said.
"I'm Aibh? Your daughter?" she didn't look at me, "Mum? Are you joking? This isn't funny please." She looked at Niall, back at me and then she turned her face into the pillow.
Just then the doctor came in, "Ah, Miss Dowds and.." he said looking at Niall.
"Niall Horan."
"Ah, yes Aibhlinn's friend. Miss Dowds would you mind stepping out of the room for a minute? You too Mr Horan." I looked back at my mother. Then followed the doctor into the hall.
"Miss Dowds, you are probably wondering why your mother hasn't spoken to you yet." I nodded, he continued, "Your mother has short term memory loss. She can remember you and your father but she only remembers you as a baby. She can't remember you growing up. She doesn't reconise you. I'm so sorry but there's no way her memory will come back." Niall squeezed my waist where his arm was wrapped around.
"Can.. can I still see her?"
"Oh of course, but it may be upsetting for you." I walked back into my mum's room, I tried talking to her but she wouldn't answer.
The doctor said we could stay for the night, Niall stayed with me. We sat at the arm chair facing my mother's bed. Niall comforted me, he stroked my hair and kissed the top of my head. He was as sad as I was. My mum didn't wake up but I had no reason to be scared. Her heart monitor had a constant beeping the whole night. It kept me awake.
In the morning, Niall went to the hospital canteen and brought back some food, we ate in silence. I kept looking at my mother's heart monitor. The squiggily lines kept my attention for a while until they began to starighten up. I patted Niall's chest. "Is it supposed to do that?" I asked panicking, I never moved my eyes off of the screen. Niall looked as shocked as me. He ran to get the doctor. I stood up and went to my mother's bed side. "Mum, no please. Please mum, don't. You can't." I cried, my tears soaked through her duvet. She opened her eyes slightly.
"Aibh?" she whispered.
"Mum! Mum! I love you so much! Do you remember me? Mum!"
"Aibh, Aibh. I love.. you" she said. Her breath was shaking.
beep. beep. beep.
beeep beeep beeep.
beeeeeeeeeeep.
"MUM!" I screamed but it was too late. I lost my mum, I lost my dad, I lost my family.
