Night Of The Dead

Chapter 5

Danni felt warm and comfortable. He smiled as he rolled over, throwing his arm across Stan. Thats when his eyes shot open quickly.

Stan was laying with his back turned and snoring loudly.

"Stan.. Stan! Get up!" Danni shook him hard, but he got no response.

"your so alert" Danni heard a deep, raspy voice say. His head jerked in the opposite direction, but Sam was just laying there.

"Show yourself!" Danni shouted. He began to think his mind was playing tricks on him, but the voice slowly replied.

"I cannot do so. We are one now"
Danni flinched at the sound of the voice again then muttured under his breath "yep. I've lost it. I'm talking to a damn voice in my head"

"How can you be so intelligent, but forget where I came from.. I am the organism from the pod!"

The voice said as it begin to speak quickly, and at that very moment, Danni had flash backs of last night.

"this is not happenning. It can't be!" Danni looked around wildly and tried to stand, but his body locked in place as the voice spoke again.

"calm yourself human. You must not exert too much energy. The joining is still in process, but nearly complete"

Danni's body fell back down as he tried to process what was going on. He thought about arguing with this voice. But he knew there was no use, and he had no control over his body. He couldn't move anything but his head. It was as if helplessness itself had held him down. He sat in silence for a few minutes before he spoke again.

"so what's really going on.. Am I crazy. Have I gone crazy from what I saw last night?"

"your fine, and completely sane" Danni listened carefully as the voice spoke. Tears fell from his cheeks as he replied to the voice.

"where did you come from?.. Better yet, what are you? Some type of bacteria feeding on my brain?"

The voice remained silent for a moment. Danni was about to yell at it, but the voice spoke again.

"im not from this galaxy as you should know. I would explain where, but it will be in a language of moans and grunts, so it will not make very much sense to you.. And to answer your question. I am not bacteria, but I do contain a lot of that. I am a type of parasite. We are coexisting through symbioses, meaning we benefit from each other.. I need you to live and I double your chances of survival in return. You and the others you refer to as Stan and Sam, all have double the vitamins and so on. I also give you the ability to quickly regenerate before your eyes"

Danni couldn't believe what he was hearing. It frightened him to death, that something was living inside him. Rubbing his head, he realized that he could move again. Holding his arms up, he noticed veins throbbing in his arms.

"hey, what now? What's going on?"... Danni's question went unanswered.

"answer me!!" he yelled and barely got a response. "The joining process is complete, and unfortunately the veins mean that another parasite is close"

Danni begin to panic as he stood to his feet. "what do you mean assume control?, your not taking over my body"

Sounding irritated, the voice argued.

"Just allow me to control you in order to defend our life!"

The voice tried to persuade Danni, but he was shaking his head and already closing the tailgate. The voice began to taunt him.

“coward.. If you flee now, you wont know what your up against. It will just chase us another day"

Danni didn't give it a second thought, or even a first. Jumping into the driver seat, he tried to crank the truck up. It could have fooled him into thinking it's asthmatic by the way it caughed..

“prepare yourself for combat" the voice tried to warn Danni, but the entire time, he was fiddling with the keys.

A moment later he heard the sound of a truck coming but couldn't see it.
Nearly at the same time, a train begin roaring down the tracks.. Danni's eyes looked all around, then he saw it.. a large diesel truck swung around a corner, stopping across the road. Danni's heart rate sped up dramatically as a tall man got out of the vehicle.
