Chapter One: *Kurt*

"Pacing isn't going to help, you know." I gently chastised my husband.

"Feels like just yesterday we were suffering through life at McKinley doesn't it?" he asked, his eyes filled with anxiety.

"Yes. It'll always feel that way, though. We can't allow our past to dictate our future. This is an important time for you, you shounldn't be thinking about all that mess. Now, please and for the love of all things music, open that damn letter!"

Blaine walked over to the table and cautiously lifted it up.

"It won't bite, you know." I said with a fond smile. He's been waiting 3 weeks for this letter. He opened the envelope and pulled out the folded letter. His eyes scanned over it quickly, his eyes lighting up with every word.

"I'm in!" he shouted, bouncing on his feet with a stunning smile.

"That's so amazing, Blaine! I am so happy for you," I went over and hugged him. What an incredible thing! I'd been so worried he wouldn't make it. This is his dream, getting into NYADA. I can't even imagine how devastated he'd have been if he had been rejected.

"I can't believe this. Oh, God, this is so awesome! To Facebook I go!" he dashed to his phone. I decided this called for a celebration. I grabbed 2 glasses, filled them, with milk, and grabbed the bag of Chips Ahoy. I could feel his excitement all through our small apartment. My mind was racing.

I was genuinely happy for him, I was. That being said, I was also anxious. I was going to a fashion school whereas he would be attending a school for theatrical arts. We'd been through so much, last year I was certain this part would be a breeze. But now that it's here, it's a lot different. Blaine and I went through a lot, but is it enough? I can't be the only person that will ever find him charming or find him simply astounding. That's wishful thinking. It made me kind of sad to think about it. But that's reality, and I'll have to face it sometime. I won't let anyone take my Blaine from me, I can't allow that to happen. He's literally my everything. I would break every nail and do anything for him. That's how that is. No one will change that. But that's how I feel. If he does...find someone else....I can't keep him trapped in a relationship against his own will. I want him to be happy. I just hope his happiness is found within me as mine is found within him. I suppose only time will tell.

In high school, we looked out for each other. When one was slammed into a locker, the other felt his pain. We stood up for each other. In high school, we would ease the other's pain.

I just hope being in different schools won't change that.

"Hey, Sugar. How've you been?" I said into the receiver as I cooked dinner for Blaine and myself.

"I've been okay. Did you get accepted into that fancy school, Kurtsie?" Em replied. I could hear something fall and Ruby chastise her.

"Yes, I did. It's really awesome. I didn't think I would."

"I did. When Blaine told me both of you guys into the schools you wanted, I wasn't surprised. My brother's a good singer. He can dance okay, too. You have a pretty voice, Kurtsie. But it's cool how you can make all those drawings of pretty dresses come to life. It's like magic!" She sounded really happy for the both of us. There was a renewed joy to her nowadays, since she's been with her mum. It's nice. She never sounds scared or worried anymore. Blaine noticed it, too, the last time they spoke.

"I think so, too, Sweetie. And thank you for saying my voice is pretty. I don't get that much, other than from Blaine and my family. How are you doing in school?"

She went into a detailed story about how a boy named Jordan was being bullied at the swings and she rushed over and helped him out. She told the bullies to go away because she'd dealt with low-lives like them before and would happily do it again. She said she and Jordan sat by the swings and talked the rest of recess. It was awesome because Jordan never spoke to anyone. He didn't even answer questions in class. She said that's why they picked on him, because he had no one to stand up for him.

"And then he said he didn't want a bodyguard. So I said 'how about a friend?' and he nodded and smiled a tiny smile at me. No one's ever seen him smile, Kurtsie! It was amazing. My teacher, Mrs. Jonas, saw how I stood up for him and told me I'd done a good job. But I knew that already. I did something good AND got a new friend. So today was a good day."

She certainly sounded happy about getting a new friend out of this kid. I was very happy for her. Happy she knew right from wrong. I think what made me the happiest was her attitude about it. She was in a much better place now than she had been with her father, but she never seemed to forget where she came from. Not that you could possibly forget something like that; it just didn't ruin her entire outlook on things. I was proud.

"Maybe no one's ever wanted to be his friend before. It's wonderful of you to stand up for him. Have you told Blaine about Mr. Jordan?"

"No....He'll tell me to get him to open up to me so I can help him with everything wrong in his life. I don't think he's ready to do that yet. I want to get him to open up to me a little at a time, in his own way, when and how he wants to. It's his story, right?"

NOW I was proud of her.

"Yes, that's right. You're very wise for your age. That's a good quality to have. I am very proud of you, Em."

The food was done so, with a promise to call later, I hung up. That girl and her brother were so much alike. It surprised me sometimes.
