Chapter 4: Blaine

So. There Kurt and I sit, just enjoying the day with each other. I could see a figure approaching, but payed it no mind. I thought perhaps it was some kid thinking this was his family, he'd see us and leave.

Nope.

When he asked my name, I could tell he was from a long time ago, if I actually knew him at all. I knew this because he called me Blaine Anderson and not Hummel.

Andrew. As soon as he said it, I knew who he was.

"Andrew? From West-Point?" I asked in disbelief.
His smile said it all.

"The one and only. It's been a long time, Blaine." He said. And he wasn't joking.
We went to West-Point elementary and middle school together. Before a lot of my horrific, sexual orientation-ally provoked bullying. He was one of my closest friends. We tried to keep in touch after I moved for high school. But.. Everything was overwhelming. Starting a new school (for us both) and having to start over with making friends. I was the only one he'd ever had. I never thought I'd see him again.

"Yeah, no kidding. Sit, join us! How have you been? What's been going on?" I must have missed so much of his life.

He looked slightly uncomfortable.

"I don't want to interrupt. My life has not been all that interesting."

I realized he had yet to be introduced to Kurt.
"Oh, sorry. This is my husband, Kurt. Kurt, this is a very old friend, Andrew." Kurt politely smiled and they greeted one another, Kurt also inviting him to join us.

Andrew hesitantly say down.

"Okay. So. How have you been? It's been years." I asked.

"I've been really good. High school has been a bitch, I failed my Sophomore year. But it's all good." He sounded contempt, though I could tell there was more to the story. But I wasn't about to push it.

"We just graduated. Why are you in New York? This is the last place if have thought to have seen any old school friends." And for some of those old "friends", I really hope they don't just come stumbling across.

"Oh. I go to school here. The high school like 4 blocks away? I attended there. And I plan on NYU. I moved here Sophomore year, one of the reasons I failed. How about yourself? When you left Westerville I thought it was just a few hours away."

I could imagine his trip motivated his failure. Moving from the slow Ohio curriculum to... This? I can't say I'm surprised.

"I moved to Lima, yes. But being gay in Ohio wasn't... Good. At all."

I left out that I had actually moved a few times, trying to flee people who had suspected what my father was up to. I'd never told Kurt the extent of my living with him. And I certainly wasn't going to just tell Andrew when we haven't seen each other in over 4 years. He wanted to move us before the abuse. That way people wouldn't notice the changes he knew I'd have to make. He used to be a smart man, see?

"I understand. Trust me on that. I came out not too long after you left. Found a nice guy, Joshua. But that didn't go to well when I moved here."
He said, voice filled with understanding.

"What happened?" Kurt asked, curiosity and sympathy coloring his voice.

He just shook his head, "A different story for a different time," he looked at us. "Will there be a different time? I'd love to catch up with you, Blaine. And is love to get to know you better, Kurt."

I looked at Kurt, trying to read his demeanor.

"Absolutely. It would be fabulous to know some of Blaine's childhood friends," he said. I could tell he was really curious to know how I was before he met me. Before my father. Before everything.

Andrew smile and exchanged numbers with us before standing.

"Until next time, I suppose. It was wonderful meeting you, Kurt. And I enjoyed talking to you again, Blaine. Have a marvelous day."

We said our goodbyes and he left. Kurt looked at me,

"He seems nice. A little edgy, but he seems like a good person."

"Yeah. He was back then. He was pretty much my only friend growing up. I wasn't a very social person."

**3rd person POV **

Out of earshot, neither boy could hear as Andrew spoke on the phone.

"Yeah. he's here. His husband's really nice, too."

"That's great," the voice on the other line said, "and they are living in New York? Or just visiting."

"They live here. Apparently near Central Park, too. They seemed fairly familiar with the area when I was telling them where my school was."

"Good. You didn't spill anything did you?" The voice was deep, an unspoken threat.

"Of course not! This is a really neat thing you're doing for him. Why would I want to ruin the surprise? He'll love it!"

The voice on the other end chuckled, "Yes, he will. Thanks for the update. Let me know what you find out."

"Will do!"

The two men hung up. Andrew walked towards his home while the mysterious man looked at his lover.

"Yes," he said, " Blaine will love this surprise. Even if it kills him."
