THE dark treetops shone under the cold stars, making the grey Hogwarts towers illuminate. Mercy was currently on one of the Astronomy Towers, watching the stars and thinking. This had been her sole refuge since first year, turning away to stargaze and thinking everything over made her calm down.

Thoughts of her family bothered her, and when she lay in her bed at night, she kept turning and turning until the earliest hours of morning. A quiet voice in the back of her head kept reminding her that she would finally give in one day and admit to her great potential to be powerful, but she wiped away her salty tears and consoled herself by saying that she still had to prove to everyone that she would not continue her family's legacy. She would not be a devoted follower to the Dark Lord and her impulsive and careless parents would not control her.

But when she woke up in a certain brown haired boy's bed, she was confused and unsure of what to do, and where to go. It was a moment of confusion and fright, waking up in a bed, somewhere she didn't know well. James Potter certainly was a charmer, but staying in his bed forever wouldn't solve any of Mercy's problems. So, escaping to the Astronomy Tower at six in the morning before the sun rose seemed like a good idea. But all that couldn't happen before seeing James Potter and Remus Lupin, of course. Looking back at the conversation she took part in just a mere thirty minutes ago made Mercy unsure of what do to.

     "Rise and shine baby!"

Not a second passed from that statement — and as quickly as light, James Potter's grinning head had popped in the doorway. Mercy's heart had leapt in her ribcage, a shy smile appearing on her chapped lips.

"What happened?" Mercy had asked, pushing her dark brown hair behind her ears, "Did you guys possibly drug me and drag me here?"

James rolled his eyes, sitting down on one of the dark brown trunks, "We would never be that obvious. We try to be creative. So, we just dragged you here. To be honest, M, you did the first job quite well. You were out like light!"

Mercy had furrowed her arched brows, "I think I fainted, but I don't know what happened for sure. This had never happened to me before. I have had times I nearly fainted, but this, no."

James sat up, pushing his thin, black spectacles out of his way to rest upon his forehead, and let out a small sigh of concern. His hazel eyes were clouded over with worry and confusion, and his brown hair was ruffled on top of his head. He looked lost in thought and unsure as to what to do next.

"I'm sure she'll be fine, Prongs." – in had entered Remus Lupin, the prefect and the most-kind-person-on-campus. It was as if he had a second sense and appeared whenever his friends felt ill. "Oh, hey there Mercy. Did you sleep well? Pettigrew and I had developed a few self-wash spells and tried them out on you. Worked like a charm, I see!"

Mercy nodded slowly, "Yes, I slept fine, thanks. I just don't understand what happened. And being a lab rat to your spells doesn't bother me at all, thank you." She laughed.

After that, Remus had just shrugged his shoulders and muttered an "I'm not sure why myself", leaving Mercy to ponder the possibilities. James gave her back her cloak and clothes, and after quickly changing, hidden from anyone's eyes, Mercy ran back towards her dormitory, her once warm body starting to shiver as she climbed deeper and deeper into the dormitories of Slytherin.

There were distinct voices of teachers, all reunited in a perfect circle, their wands in their hands, slowly chanting spells. As time passed, the green walls finally regained their warmth, the fireplace started tingling with ambers and a gust of warm air swam over the students, all sighing in delight at the now comfortable warmness.

"Thank you." – Mercy said, pulling off her warm sweater and readjusting her white collar, "It really saved us so much hassle."

After a smile from one of the teachers, quickly, the teachers dispersed, going back to their quarters, getting ready for breakfast, their dark robes swooshing behind them as they hurried back upthe stone stairs. Looking back at them, Mercy let out a quiet sigh and as quick as lightning, swooped down on one of the green velvet couches positioned in a circle in front of the cozy fireplace. Charming up a cup of hot tea and chocolate covered toast, she  got comfortable.

Quietly, she contemplated her options. What could she do now? It was Sunday morning, and she had already finished her assignments for tomorrow. Thinking quickly, Mercy got the idea of early Christmas presents – why not save time? It would be less stressful for her, and she wouldn't have to think about it for the following two months. It would be great, wouldn't it?

Standing up quickly, she went into her shared room, finding it empty, save for a cute tabby cat propped up on one of her roommate's beds. Stroking its back while passing by it, she started thinking of what presents she could buy her friends and her family. As she kept on contemplating, she quickly stripped and walked into the shower. After washing her inky black hair, she quickly dried off and brushed her pearly white teeth, all while drying her hair with a towel.

After freshening up, she started putting on clothes, changing into something that made her green eyes pop and make her pale complexion look less sickly and more warm. Wrapping a warm red scarf around her neck, she put a quick color on her lips and brushed her now dry hair once again.

After promptly getting dressed, the sixteen year old had grabbed her wallet and her backpack, shuffling her boots and coat on as she hummed a quiet tune under her breath. As she finished getting ready, she walked up the stone stairs, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. Forget breakfast, she would dine at a cute café in Hogsmeade and forget all about her worries – after all, Amelie made her promise to go to a blind date the bubbly girl had imposed on her. She felt relaxed, at last.
