Chapter 7: A lunch date

Chapter 7:
Angela's pov:
I ended the call with Max, and turned around to get my purse and say goodbye to Avery.
My eyes widened as I saw Avery's face, red with anger.
"Thank you for the lunch invitation, but I think it would be better if I left. Goodbye."
I turned around to leave, but didn't get very far, when I felt a hand on my wrist.
"You prefer to go to lunch with Maximilian than with me!" Avery said almost screaming.
"Because at least he didn't lie to me in order for me to go to lunch with him." I replied starting to get mad.
With that said, I got my hand away from his and left to lunch with Max.

I opened the door to the restaurant and was greeted with a smiling Max.
"Hi" we both said in unison. We laughed and went towards a table. Max pulled out a chair for me, and he waited till I sat down, then he sat down in his chair.
"So what happened that you called me to ask me if our lunch date was still on?" Max asked.
"Well our client cancelled, and Mr . Blackwell was going to meet up with an old friend of his." I explained.
Max nodded and spoke.
"I can't wait for Saturday, that's when you're finally going to meet little Jack."
"Me too, I've been quite anxious to meet him." I agreed.
At that moment, the waiter came and asked for our orders.
"What can I get for you today?" The waiter said smiling at both of us.
"Can you please get us the Chicken Alfredo and lasagne." Max ordered for us.
"And for drinks sir?"
"What would you like Angie?" Max asked me.
"A lemonade please" I replied
Max nodded and ordered it.
"Right away sir" the waiter said while nodding.
"I'm guessing the Chicken Alfredo is for me?" I asked while raising an eyebrow.
"You guessed right Angie. I remember that since you were a child your favorite dish was pasta." Max said, smiling.
"I'm surprised you even remembered." I said shocked.
"Well, after all you were and still are my childhood best friend." He said while holding my hands in his own hands.
"Thanks, the same goes to you." I replied.
At that moment the waiter came with our food.
"Time has gone by so fast" Max said.
"Yeah I know. But look at the bright side, time gives us a present." I said.
"And what is that?" He asked while raising one eyebrow.
"Memories" I replied simply."Remember when we used to go to my family's ranch."
"Yeah and we used to go horseback riding with our favorite horses".
"Yes, those were some good memories. What if we go and visit the ranch?"
"Sure, we just have to ask for permission from Mr.Blackwell to miss work."
"Yeah"
After our small conversation we started to eat in a comfortable silence.

(At the office)
Angela's pov:
"We have arrived to your destination my lady" Max said while bowing down.
"Why thank you my kind sir" I said and did a small curtsy.
"Thank you for the lunch I really enjoyed it." I thanked Max, while opening my office door.
"You're welcome Angie. I actually have to thank you since you kept me company for lunch." He said while leaning on the wall.
"Well in that case, you are welcome." I said to him.
Max and I hugged goodbye, and parted ways.
Max is such a sweet guy.
Just as I closed the door to my office, the telephone rang.
"Good afternoon, this is Mr.Blackwell's office. Who am I speaking to?"
"It's me,Avery, I need you to come to my office."
"Yes sir" I said, but he had already hung up the phone.
I walked in to his office, and saw Avery just working on his computer not even paying attention to my entrance.
"Yes Mr.Blackwell?" I asked Avery.
He stopped typing and turned his attention to me.
"Angela, how many times do I have to tell you to call me by my first name?"
"I won't call you by your first name, because it is unprofessional." I said walking closer to his desk.
"But I don't want you to look at me as your boss, but as your friend Angela."
"Mr.Blackwell there-"I started to talk,but Mr.Blackwell interrupted me. "Avery, Angela. Remember Avery."
I mentally rolled my eyes at him, and spoke.
"I'm sorry but I won't be calling you Avery." I said in a apologetic voice.
"Why? It's not like I'm asking you out on a date."
"Fine, I'll call you Avery" I said irritated."what do you need?"
"I need you to change the meeting that I have this afternoon to tomorrow, and save these files into this USB drive, and also bring me a coffee with 2 teaspoons of sugar and cream." Avery said pointing to the stack of files in his desk.
"Yes sir" I said, and grabbed the files.
I walked out of his office and left the files in my office and left to get the coffee.
I walked to the cafeteria in the building and ordered the coffee.
"Hey" I heard someone say beside me.
I turned around and saw Lisa.
Lisa is a new friend that I made when I first got here.
"Hey Lisa, how are you?" I asked.
"Good, and you?" She asked.
"Good" I replied.
"So who are you going to go with to the annual ball?"
"No one, and you?"
"I'm going with Nick. I thought you were going to go with Max?"
"Oh no, Max and I are childhood best friends, but we're not going together to the ball." I explained
"Oh"
At that moment, the worker told me the coffee was ready.
I got the coffee and said goodbye to Lisa.
I knocked on his office door, and waited for a 'come in'.

Avery's pov:
I heard a knock on my door, and said my usual 'come in'.
I saw Angela come in, with a cup of coffee in her hands, most probably my coffee.
"Here is your coffee sir" she said while putting the cup in my desk.
"Thanks, can I speak to you for a moment Angela?"
"Yes sir"
"First, call me Avery. Second, please sit down *points to a chair*."
"What do you want to talk to me about?" She said while sitting down.
"About your response to my proposal?"
"You're still with that" she said irritated,"look the answer is no."
"Because you want to go with Maximilian. Don't you?" I said starting to get angry.
"No, he and I are childhood best friends, I see him as a friend not as a boyfriend." She said.
"Yeah sure" I said in a sarcastic tone.
"You know what, you have no right to be asking me what is my relationship with Max, so if that's all Mr.Blackwell I will leave to my office to work."
With that said she left my office.
What do I have to do to get her attention?
I know what!
I'll take Caroline to the annual ball.
Caroline is my ex girlfriend, but after our break up we stayed as good friends.
I got my phone out of my pocket and dialed her number.
"Hey Caroline, can you do me a favor?"
