As the door slammed, I let out a sigh. Why do I have to be such an asshole sometimes? I run my hands through my sweaty hair and groan turning around and walking towards my house.

I really do care for Mia. She's my best friend and I would never want to hurt her, or for anyone else to hurt her. I like her, I really like her. But I don't want to like her. She's my best friend and I wouldn't want to ruin that, and she also doesn't really know how to like someone.

Not saying that she sleeps around or anything, but she doesn't like feeling like she's trapped by someone. Not like I'm a saint either. I jump from girl to girl sometimes too. We're all fucked up.

I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket and I take it out.

\Text from: Suzy-Hey, are you free?/

I roll my eyes and delete the message, then go in to Mia's contact. I start a new message,

\To: Mia - Meet me at the café tomorrow. please?/

I put my phone back into my pocket then head home. The city was pretty quiet tonight. Nothing bad really happens around here except around midnight. I look up into the sky, stars scattered all around and the cold breeze blowing past my body.

As I made my way up the silent street, I hear a cry come from the alley. I hurry towards the scream and spot a tall dark figure leaning on another small dark figure against the wall.

I try getting closer so I could hear what is being said. "Don't act like you don't like it." A deep voice chuckles. "Get the hell away from me." The girl against the wall sneers, spitting in his face. The man chuckles and wipes the spit off his face, raising his hand to slap her.

I quickly walk near them, "Yo! Get your fucking hands off of her!" I swing my fist across the mans head, making him stumble backwards. He quickly looks up at me, his face burning with fury. "Why don't you get the hell out of here before I break your fucking face." He growls, standing inches from me.

I roll my eyes and look over at the girl, "Why are you still standing there? Go!" As I finished the sentence, his fist came in contact with my stomach - making me groan and fall on the ground. The girl managed to escape, but now I was the one taking shit from the man.

I got up and kicked him in the stomach then punched him across the face. He fell on the ground holding his stomach and groaning. "Asshole." I mumbled, walking out of the alley. I whipped the sweat from my forehead with my jacket and started heading home.

I hope that girl is okay.

Just as the thought went through my mind, I hear someone call out to me. "Hey!" I turn around and spot the same girl from the alley, her features not very clear since it was dark out. As she slowly approached me, the light immediately hit her face.

Wow, this girl is beautiful.

"Ah, yea.." She was wearing a short waitress dress and her hair was long and brown. She smiled at me, "Thank you for earlier." I nodded, "Its no problem."

She then nodded and looked around, "Well, thanks again. I'll go now." She walked past me and I contemplated if I should either walk her to her house or not. I looked back at her then rubbed my forehead.

I jog up next to her and start walking by her. "What?" She asks, looking up at me. I stare straight ahead. "If you walk alone and something happens to you, I'm not taking responsibility for it. Might as well make sure I won't be a suspect." She giggles then looks away, "Ok."

We walk in silence, cars honking and crickets chirping being the only thing heard in the quite neighborhood. The girl suddenly stops, making me look up and see a house with lights coming from the windows - indicating that someone is inside. "Do you live with your parents?" I asked, finally looking at her in the eyes. She shook her head, "I live with my big sister." I nod.

We stay in an awkward silence for a while, but she then breaks it. "Well, thank you for walking me home, and saving me." She smiles. I return the smile and nod. "Of course, no problem. But, you owe me." I say, pointing at her with a brow raised. "I'll take you out to eat sometime." She giggled, turning around and opening the front gate.

She turns her head towards me and waves. I wave back at her and smile, turning around and starting to walk home. As I got closer to my house, I remember, "Dang it, I didn't get her number." I groan, ruffling my hair and kicking the door - then opening the door and stomping my foot on the ground as I close the door.
