November first. The day after Halloween. I guess this time is especially bad for the teeth because of all the sugar. But that's exactly how I spent the day: stuffing down Snickers, Laffy Taffy, Starbursts, Almond Joy... So I decided to bring some of my sweets from Halloween to school the on Monday, for some of my friends, so I wouldn't explode. But before I do that, let me tell you a little bit of what happened on the night of Halloween.
My friends and I walked into town, pretty late in the night. I guess you could say we were "Trick or Treaters", although we weren't dressed up. We were walking behind some Upperclassmen in our school and hear them talking about a party that isn't too far away. So, we decided to follow them there since they were going...
Big mistake.
Not only was there underage drinking and involvement of drugs, but Jesus Christ, my freaking crush was there! The guy I've been daydreaming of being with for years, practically since the day I met him in eighth grade, and I'm in 11th.
"Look Dayna, there's your boyfriend Ian!" My friend Alexia jokingly said to me.
It made me feel kind of sad inside because I wish she was right. I wish he was my boyfriend. And the way he treated me that night, you'd mistake him for my boyfriend.
We walked into the party and half the people there were passed out, and the other half were about to be. He was probably the only drug-less, semi-sober person there. He approached my friends and I and said "Hey guys, why don't y'all come in?" And walked us inside, leading us to the couch. Let me remind you that this wasn't even his house, it was his friends, and he was treating us like his guests. He sat down on the couch next to me, and a few seconds after my friends left to go get water.
"You two make conversation," my other friend Kat said said to me. She was leading me onto making a move on him.
"So... Are you enjoying the party?" I asked him. My head heated up and I knew my face was fiery red. I could feel my fingertips getting numb, and how badly I was shaking.
"Yeah, I guess. It's sorta boring when everyone's passed out, y'know? I'm glad you showed up though, now I can actually have a nice conversation with someone who's conscious."
"I wasn't really invited, I probably shouldn't be here. It's getting late." It was around 11 p.m., and my curfew was at twelve. I didn't want to seem like a dweeb, but I didn't feel comfortable being at the party.
"Don't worry about it, I'll walk you home. Is that okay?" He rose from the couch and put his hand out, like he was gesturing we should dance.
"Of course, let me just tell my friends." I looked over to Alexia and Kat and they were already pretending to make-out, you know, when you put your arms around yourself and make smooch faces. They were being so overly immature because I doubted to even get a hug that night, and if I did, that'd make the best night I'd had in a while.
We left the house, and started walking down the partially steep hill, which made me even more nervous than I already was, fearing I'd trip along the way.
"So," he said to me, "How is your night so far?"
"Oh, it's pretty good."
"Good, that's good."
"Was it true when you said you were glad I showed up to the party?"
"Yeah, it was. Why?"
"I don't know... Is there a particular reason why you wanted me to be there?"
"No. Actually, sort of. Ever since school started, I um..." He paused and stopped walking. "Since school started, I've had a crush on you... You're in almost all of my classes and I love hearing your unnecessary comments and your answers."
