Chapter 20: Happy Birthday

  "Get the cake." I told Chandler. He got it out of the fridge and brought it outside.
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear, Byron, happy birthday to you!!!" Everyone sang.
"Yeah!" I played with his hands. He laughed.
"Go see grandma." He stretched his arms out to Gina.
"Hey, just calm down." Chandler put a hand on my shoulder.
"It's his 2nd birthday."
"And you did great last year. Just calm down you're making this too big."
"Ok."
"Ok?"
"Ok." He smiled.
"Cut dat cake." He hit my butt. I looked back at him. I started cutting the cake.
"Aunt Rachel, Easton is being mean." Paige pat my leg.
"Go find aunt May." I told her.
"Need some help?" Colt asked.
"Yeah. Thanks." He cut the cake.
"When is Jackie gonna pop?"
"3 more months."
"It's rough." I pat his shoulder. He smiled. I knelt next to Enzo.
"Are you being mean to Paige?" I asked.
"What? Are you kidding me that was Easton!" He says.
"Right Easton." I walked over to Easton.
"Can we all be nice?" I asked.
"Aunt Rachel! She started it."
"And I'm going to end it. Be nice or no cake."
"I don't even like cake!" He yells as I walked away.
"No ice cream." I say.
"You wouldn't!"
"Watch me!"
"Rachel!" Easton complained. I laughed.
"Mommy!"
"What baby?" I pat his head as he wrapped his arms around my leg.
"Hold me!" He jumped up and down. I picked him up.
"By, you want some cake?" He smiled.
"Yeah?" I set him in a chair and colt put a plate I front of him. I turned around and Chandler had his arms open.
"It's so hard."
"I know."
"It's only the second year?"
"16 more to go."
"You make this sound easy."
"Eh, it's challenging."
"Shut up." I hit his back. He laughed.
"I'm so sorry I'm late." Lauren walked over.
"Hey!" I slide hugged her.
"Lauren!" Easton and Enzo ran over to hug her.
"Please, have some cake."
"Hey guys." She knelt to their level. I walked inside to get juice. Greyson, Chandler, Norman and Steven were playing call of duty. I smacked Chandler.
"You just got owned." Steven said. Norman laughed.
"It's Byron's birthday." I say. He rubs his head.
"We're in the middle of the game."
"Rachel if you want he can play too." Norman says. I smacked him to.
"Own me!" Steven says. I back handed him.
"Damn." He says. "That harder than my mom." He rubbed his cheek.
"Get out there and play with him."
"I'll play with him." Greyson said.
"What a great uncle."
"Hey Byron!" Norman ran outside
"I'm the best uncle!" Steven ran out too as well as all the guys. I brought the juice out and set it on the table. Byron laughed.
"Oooooh!" He screamed. The was his first time eating that much ice cream so he's hyper right now. He ran across the backyard with Easton, Enzo, and Paige. I felt arms twisting around me.
"I think you owe me an apology." Chandler said. I laughed.
"Do I?" He kissed my cheek and chased Byron around the yard.
"Baby I have to say you guys have done a amazing job raising him." Mom said. I smiled.
"Thanks." I side hugged her. I heard really loud laughing and paige screaming. I looked over and saw Byron laughing and Paige screaming and pointing at him.
"He shit his pants, Rach." Norman said.
"Who the best uncle again?" I asked again.
"Mine!" Steven ran over.
"I'm actually his uncle!" Greyson swooped him.
"Well I'm the best." Norman said.
"And I'm his dad." Chandler took him from Greyson and walked inside.
"Maybe next time." I say.
"You can schedule me for Tuesday night." Steven said.
"Another backhand?" I asked.
"No ma'am." He laughed. Joven walked over.
"Hey!" He said.
"Hey."
"So I don't want to rain on By's party but Paige kinda broke her arm and we're driving to the ER." I put a hand on his shoulder.
"Oh no is she ok?"
"Yeah, don't worry about it, just a swing fall."
"I'm sorry."
"It's cool." He quickly left.
"What wrong?" Jackie asked.
"Oh nothin, just drama Paige."
"Typical." She said. I laughed.
"How's your little guy?"
"He's good. But I'm ready for him to come out!"
"How's colts astronaut career goin?"
"He's been chosen to go to the ISS." She said.
"You don't seem happy."
"I'm scared, this is space!"
"When?"
"Next year."
"For how long?"
"6 months."
"Jackie you can come by any day at any time."
"Thank you. I know this is what he wants and this is what he's dreamed of and I don't want to be in the way of that."
"You're not in the way."
"I needed to hear that, thanks Rach." I smiled.
"Looks like until that baby's born you need to watch that baby." I pointed colt who was riding the pony.
"Colt!" She yelled and walked over. I laughed. Classic colt.

  I threw the plates in the garbage. I pulled down each decoration carefully not to rip or tear it so I could use it again. I picked up a cup laying on the lawn.
"Remember the golden days. When we were cool?" Chandler asked. I didn't turn around. I kept picking up trash.
"Like when we were stars."
"Like when we were Carl and Avery." He says. I turned around.
"I miss those days." He smiled.
"We're too old for that now." He joked. I laughed and walked over.
"I'm not that old. But you on the other hand."
"What is that supposed to mean?!"
"It means you're old."
"Oh please, you......." And they lived happily ever after. 😀😬
