One morning in autumn Robin Hood met a young man in the forest. His name was Alan A 'Dale. He was very sad.
'Why are you sad?' asked Robin.
'Because Alice is to marry sir Niger Le Bigot today, and I want to marry her. She is my sweetheart.'
'We must stop the wedding!' cried Robin. 'You shall marry Alice.'
Robin went away. Soon he came back wearing a minstrel's clothes. He pretended to be a minstrel again. Robin set off for Kirkby village. Alan A 'Dale and twenty outlaws went with him. They walked through the forest and at last they saw the church.
Robin went inside the church. Alice was there with sir Niger. She was very unhappy. Robin blew his bugle three times, and twenty of his men ran into the church. There was a fight, and sir Niger was killed with an arrow.
When the fight was over, Alan A 'Dale went out of the church and took Alice with him. They went to the forest and lived with Robin Hood. After a few days, Alan and Alice were married. Friar Tuck married them.
