Vincent woke up, immediately feeling the sharp pain surging through his chest. He usual had medicine he took for it every morning, but it wasn't there. Nothing was. Not the nurse, not a doctor, nobody except... Scott.
Scott was laying next to him. He'd dreamed of this day for a while, sure, but now it was actually happening. Scott was actually cuddling him. He couldn't believe it. He took in every tiny detail of the moment, wanting to savor it for as long as it lasted.
Scott's brown hair was messy, his shirt a bit wrinkled. His arms were wrapped loosely around Vincent's torso, his legs intertwined with Vincent's. He'd fallen asleep smiling. His eyes began to open, and he looked up at Vincent and smiled.
"Morning, grape."
"Morning, phone."
Suddenly, the panic and the pain set in again. He gasped for air he momentarily couldn't seem to find.
"Woah, Vincent, uh, w-what's wrong?"
"N-no pills... n-n-no painkillers, no nurses..."
"Shh, calm down. I'm sure they're just-"
"D-do you think they'll even take c-care of me now? I-I mean, I-I..."
"There's no reason they wouldn't, baby. Calm down."
"I-I-I'm gay, what i-if-"
"Vinny-winny..."
Vincent took in a deep breath and giggled at the nickname. Then he took another, and another, until he was laughing so loud that it reverberated through the entire room. Scott smiled and gently kissed his neck.
"That's the spirit, honey-bunny." He started laughing as well.
Scott wouldn't solve everything, he knew that for sure. He knew it was still a struggle, that he'd still have to fight against his brain on a daily basis. But he knew that at least for now, Scott was something he could hold on to. And for now, that's all he needed.
