Patrick POV:

"Hey Fatrick!" I heard a voice shout from down the hallways. Not again, please not again. I start to run, not even knowing where. They were faster than me so I could hear them getting closer and closer
"Don't run from us you gay piece of shit!" They scream. I continue to run until they catch me, pinning me to the locker and then dragging me into the bathrooms. I felt a fist connect to my jaw, blood dripping onto the floor as they continued to hit me
"Gay people belong in Hell!" Brett, the biggest bully in school shouts at me as he punches me with his friends, Jake and Dylan. Don't pull up my sleeves, please don't pull up my sleeves. As if they knew what I was thinking, they ripped off my shirt, continuing to punch me without it
"Just kill yourself now fatass!" Jake screams, slamming my head into the wall. Teachers here never do anything to help. I swear they are deaf, I've been screaming in pain for ten minutes now.

After twenty minutes they drop me and run off after washing their knuckles off. Everything was spinning and blurry since I hit my head. I wanted my parents, I wanted someone. I'm a freshman and I've never had a real friend. My brother has already graduated high school so I had no one here. I wonder what it would be like to have a real friend. Someone who cares about you, someone who would defend you. I just want one friend, I don't even care who as long as they are nice to me. I pass out on the bathroom floor, thinking about what it would be like to have even one true friend.

Joe POV:

I just finished music class with my best friends Andy and Pete. I tell them to wait while I go to the bathroom. I walk into the bathroom and see something that looks like blood on the walls. I look in every stall and when I get to the last one, I'm horrified by what I see. There was a younger boy with strawberry blonde hair laying on the ground unconscious, covered in blood and bruises. I scream for Andy and/or Pete to come and help. They rush in, Andy racing to the nurses office and Pete kneels down next to me. I look over him and find a huge bump on the side of his head
"He hit his head hard" I say softly, making sure not to move him "does he have his student ID on him?"

"No but he looks like a freshman. That would make him two grades lower than us" he mumbles

Andy comes running down with the nurse, paramedics with a stretcher and backboard too.

They get him to a hospital, and we stay with him too. Apparently his name is Patrick Stumph and he's still 14, so he's a freshman. His mother and brother come and thank us, the doctors saying he only has a minor concussion and he should wake up soon. Mrs. Stumph told us about how he was severely bullied and she is trying to fix it, and that he hasn't ever had a true friend.
"We would be more than happy to be his friend ma'am" Pete says smiling

"Really?" She asks with tears in her eyes "that's all he's ever wanted" she chokes out. Patrick's brother hugs her and thanks us.

Patrick POV:

I slowly open my eyes, looking around confused. I reach out to my mom
"Mommy where am I?" I ask like a little kid.
She walks over and hugs me, my head pounding, "you are in the hospital, do you remember what happened?" She asks and I shake my head slowly, looking at three boys who I didn't know.
"Who are they?" I whisper to her, and she smiles and motions them over. She sits in the side of my bed and I snuggle onto her, acting like a scared puppy. I don't think I've ever met these three before. A boy with black hair and a lot of eyeliner walks up first.
"I'm Pete," then another one with longer hair comes up, "I'm Andy," and then one with an Afro comes over, "I'm Joe".

I look over at my mom, wondering how she knew these kids, "they were the ones who found you in the bathroom Patrick" she says and I look up at her, "I remember what happened now mom" I whisper and clutch onto her. She checks her phone, "Patrick, I have to get back to work and Kevin has to go get ready to head back to college" she whispers. Kevin is my brother and he's twenty.
"What if they come back mom?" I whimper and then Pete walks over
"We will make sure they don't" he says as Joe and Andy nod.

Two Days Later:

I was back at home now, and Pete, Joe, Andy, and I have all became really good friends. I loved having friends so sometimes I was a little too nice. Pete was coming over today since it was Saturday.

For the first time, I thought everything would be okay.
