“Excuse me?”

Gore touched Ezra’s shoulder, “We should go somewhere and talk.”

Ezra froze. Suddenly they weren’t alone. There were four men approaching from all sides, with stoic faces. Were they coming for him? He looked around.

 He was being surrounded.

“Now I don’t want you doing anything stupid. So why don’t we just-“

Gore’s speech was cut short by Ezra’s stiff punch in the nose. Ezra ran past Gore in the only clear path out of the cemetery, followed by the angry grunts of the men chasing him.

“Come here, boy! Where are you going?” Their voices echoed as he ran to safety. While running he patted his jacket pocket to find it empty. His keys.

Shit.

He glances behind him to see a tall and lean man with a slick back beginning to close in on him. The man huffs and puffs, but isn’t too far from him. He needs to hide.

On the edge of the cemetery is a set of trees, maybe he can hide there. Ezra heads that way. Once he reaches the trees, he sees a log that looks big enough for him to get inside. He does, much to his body’s dismay. He can feel ants crawling up slacks, but didn’t want to risk falling down land’s incline.

“Where the fuck did he go?” A voice questions.

Another voice replies, “Hell if I know. Let’s just drop it. We’ll get em next time.”

Ezra gasped in response.

“Hey. Did you hear that?” The first voice asks. But they continue to leave the forest. After it was quiet for a long period, Ezra shimmies out of the log and surveys the area. The coast is clear.

But there are many things that are not.

Was that man really Gore?

If so, why did he want to kill Ezra?

Did Gore kill his father?

So many unanswered questions. But Ezra would soon answer them.
