Jean's POV
Jean couldn't figure out why he couldn't look at Marco this morning.
There he was, walking down the hall, and saw Marco walking straight towards him. He smiled, the corners of his eyes crinkling rather adorably, and Jean had just looked away. Perhaps attempted to smile, only to look constipated.
During his music class, the notes in the easy music they gave him swam before his eyes, and his fingers slipped on the strings; the sound emitted twangs and twings. His professor had given him disapproving looks, and his classmates had sniggered behind his back.
During lunch break, he saw Marco reading a book stretched out on the lawn. The bright sun above gave him something that looked like a halo- and his heart had skipped a beat.
He just couldn't figure out why.
Today was not a good day for Jean Kirstein.
Marco's POV
He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion as he read his book.
The protagonist was falling in love with the antagonist. That was not something that he exactly had wanted to read about when he checked out this book at the library, hearing that it was good for light reading.
They, Marco decided, didn't know crap about books.
Not only that, but Jean had been ignoring him for the whole day. Marco had smiled at him when he saw him in the hall... did he do something wrong? Did he had spinach stuck in his teeth?
Reassuring himself that he had nothing with spinach contained in his food that day, he put down his book. He stood up and stretched, squeezing his eyes shut at the sunlight that blazed into his eyes. It was warm, but not hot; fall approaching. The middle of September was his favorite time of the year.
Opening his eyes back up, he saw Jean across the lawn, who, by the looks of it, was spacing out. He looked like he was staring at nothing, and his mouth was slightly open. It was funny, but made Marco wonder what he was thinking about. Picking up his book, he strode across the lawn to where Jean was standing.
"Hey," Marco snapped his fingers in front of Jean's face. "Earth to Jean."
Jean blinked, then jerked into focus. "Oh, uh, hey Marco." he did something like a smile, but it looked rather odd. Marco covered his mouth to hid his oncoming smile. Jean cocked his head to the side. "Why are you smiling?"
"You looked kinda funny just now. It's cute." Marco cringed inwardly at his last comment. Cute?!
Jean's face tinted pink. "Uh, thanks. Look, I gotta go.. catch ya later?"
Marco felt disappointment. He hoped that it didn't show on his face. "Okay. You think we can hang out after class?"
Jean paused for a moment, then, "I don't have any night classes today, so sure. I-I can call you later."
"Cool, see you soon."
He couldn't help but smile a little again when he thought of Jean's odd facial expression as he walked away.
