I began to get dressed as I reflected back upon what had caused my family to move all this way. My therapist kept telling me that it wasn't my fault, none of it was my fault. But that wasn't true, she was just trying to ease my mentality. If it wasn't for me that bo-
My thoughts were soon put to an end when I heard my mothers voice, "Tyler! You're going to be late for your first day at school!" she shouted across the house.
"I'm almost ready!" I hollered back to her
Slipping on my shoes and giving my hair a good ruffle, I went downstairs to meet my mom in the kitchen. She had prepared a giant breakfast and had a plate ready for me; Bacon, eggs and hash browns. My stomach growled at the sight, which was loud enough for my mother to hear, she laughed and told me to hurry up so we could get going.
I finished my breakfast with no time to spare. As we headed outside towards my moms car, I noticed that the truck was already gone which meant that my dad had an early day at work. He works early mornings and late nights so I hardly ever see him. He says he doesn't mind working so much but I know that's all an act, my.. conditions.. puts a financial burden on our family.
I'm broken out of my thoughts when I hear my mothers voice, "Tyler, stop standing there and get in the car!"
"Right, sorry" I say as I shuffle over to the passenger side.
"Today's going to be great, I just know it. We have to make this one work Tyler." She added the last part with a sigh. Great, as if I didn't feel bad enough already.
"Yeah, I have a pretty good feeling about this place." I added for my moms reassurance.
The school wasn't too far from my house but my mom had taken the day off from work to drive me because we had to meet with the principal.
We pulled into the school parking lot, got out of the car and began towards the school. If the name of this school didn't make it seem like a prison, the building sure did. I surveyed the place. No grass, no trees, not even any weeds. This place has no outside signs of life, and to add to the dullness that was already there, the school was also painted a strange type of gray.
The inside of the building was really no better, long dark hallways and no sign of intelligent life anywhere. Great, I thought to myself, I haven't even begun my classes and I already want to puke at the mere sight of this place.
As we neared the principal's office, we first had to check in with the receptionist. She informed us that there had been an incident and the principal was in a meeting with a student. Just as we took our seats, the principal's office door was shot open. I looked up at the door and saw a flash of blue, striking enough for me to do a double take.
A boy about my age, maybe a bit older, with eccentric blue hair came storming out of the office. I think he felt my stare because he glanced over at me and gave me a smirk. I didn't even have time to react, he was gone just like he appeared, out of nowhere.
The principal apologized for the wait and introduced himself.
"I'm Daniel Turner," he said as he held out his hand for my mother to shake, "but you," he said as he turned to me, "you can just call me principal Turner."
My mother and I took our seats as principal Turner pulled up my file on his computer. I hate going through this process so I usually just tune it out.
Before I knew it I was snapped out of my thoughts by my mother, she was nudging my side trying to get my attention. Well that had gone by a lot quicker than usual.
We were saying our goodbyes and my mother thanked him for taking the time to meet with us. As I shook his hand he handed me my class schedule.
"Would you like me to show you to your first class?" he asked.
"Uh... No... I think I can manage on my own, thank you." I replied, adding the last part as an attempt to not sound rude.
With that, my mother gave me a kiss on the head, wished me luck, and then parted her separate way towards the car. I looked at my schedule and then at my watch, apparently they were in third period right now. Wow, I thought to myself, we must've been in his office longer than I thought.
My third period class was with somebody named Mrs. Rodriguez, creative writing, room E135. Every hallway was sectioned off with letters so it really wasn't that hard to find her class. I hesitated before walking in, but I knew I had to do this. I put on a fake smile and opened the door, interrupting her lesson. She looked towards the door and smiled when her eyes landed on me.
"Ah.. You must be our new student! Tyler am I right?" She questioned.
"Yes ma'am," I replied trying not to sound nervous.
"Excellent, we were just about to go over a new topic, vignettes. So grab a seat, open your notebook and get ready to take some notes!" she was so enthusiastic it gave me a sort of relief.
I surveyed the room looking for any open seat as I tried to ignore all of the wide eyes staring up at me. Finally I spotted one. It was the only one in the room and wouldn't you know it, it's right beside that blue haired boy I saw in the office earlier.
