“James, are you joining us for lunch?” Priscilla asked as grabbed her purse from her locker.
“Mm, sure. But only if Alexis wants me there.” he looked at me.
“I thought you knew that things between both of us were all good. Aren’t we friends?” I raised my eyebrow.
“Then I will be joining you guys.” He grinned as Alexis and I looped his arm around ours, “Don’t worry ladies, there is plenty of James Night to go around.” I stuck my tongue out at him.
“I’m starved,” I took a forkful of spaghetti and shoved some into my mouth.
It was delicious.
I shoved more and more forkfuls of spaghetti into my mouth until I looked up and saw James staring mouth-opened at me, "What? You've never seen a girl eat?" I frowned.
"It's not that. For someone as skinny as you, it's a shock that you eat so fast and so much." he took a sip of Dr. Pepper.
"Well, a girl's got to eat, besides, I skipped breakfast today." I groaned, "I was up all night working on this new piece I'm working on. I just can't seem to put it together."
"I would be happy to help if you want." James grinned.
"Are you sure? Aren't you kind of busy with your music and all that?"
"I can always spare some time for such a beautiful friend." he winked, "Because that's the type of friend I am, when a friend is in need, I help."
"Oh, and since when are you ever so helpful? And hasn't your mom told you that lying is bad?"
"Lying? What am I lying about?"
"About you calling me beautiful." I frowned.
"I wasn't lying. You are beautiful Alexis." he smiled.
I felt my cheeks burn from the compliment. James thought I was beautiful? Wait, what do you care Alexis. He's just a friend, nothing more.
"Um, thanks." I got my tray and walked away.

James's POV
"Um, thanks." Alexis picked up her tray and walked away.
"Did I say something wrong?" I turned to Priscilla.
"It's not what you said wrong, it's what you said right." she took a sip of her Fiji water, "Alexis doesn't do well with compliments, especially if it's from a guy. She's kind of sworn of love and dating, and well now here you come, the first guy she's called a friend since Aaron, and you start complimenting her."
"So I messed up because I told her the truth?" I rubbed my forehead confused.
"Just give her some time, let her go think." Priscilla fixed her flame-like hair, "And just remember, that with Alexis the truth is always the right answer, even if it doesn't seem like it is. She'll never forgive you if you lie to her."

Alexis's POV
I threw my tray away and headed towards the bathroom. He thinks I'm beautiful. James thinks I'm beautiful. Snap out of it Alexis. He's just a friend, nothing more.
"Hey Lexi. Fancy seeing you here." I heard a voice say. Gabrielle.
"Leave me alone Gabrielle. I never want to speak to you again."
"Aw, but I thought we were best friends?" she grinned, "I thought you got over Aaron dumping you."
"For your information Gabrielle, Aaron didn't break up with me, I broke up with him when I realized that he was an ass. And you killed our friendship that day you started hooking up with Aaron." I corrected, "Not that I hold feelings against that, both of you deserve each other." I grabbed my bag and walked away.
"Alexis, there you are." I heard James as he put his arm around my shoulders.
"Um, hey James. What's up?"
"Nothing, just came to see how you were doing? So are you busy tonight?"
"Not that I know of, why?" I pushed a brown strand of hair behind my ear.
"I wanted to know if you wanted to come to one of the dinner's my mom is organizing."
"Um, but just as friends, right?" I raised my eyebrow at him.
"Of course, just as friends." he cleared his throat, "So, pick you up at 7?"
"Okay, looking forward to it. Now I really need to get going, PE awaits me and I can't be late again or coach will make me run 2 more laps around the field.
