When the arrow struck us I was still in shock, only able to watch as our deaths swiftly approached. If only I had kept healing her we would of both lived - but I didn't, and now I felt as if I had betrayed her myself.
I shamelessly shambled back to the church at the break of dawn, drenched in her blood, coming before my flock who were resting in the church. I couldn't even offer a word of reason, I was still in a state of shock as the stench of blood invaded my senses. When I returned from the shower and put on a fresh set of clothes I returned to see that my church was empty.
I come to the church covered in blood and soot and none come to ask why, considering their pasts it was understandable. But even still I couldn't accept that I was now alone, after all I did for them I was now abandoned. I thrashed about for hours in a fit of rage, confining myself to the church, when I finally calmed down I went to see Tines body on the hill. The infernos roar had finally dulled, but her body still remained, clad in a white dress, now stained red.
My knees became weak as began to cry, what had I done? After calming down I buried her and returned to the church with determination flowing through my veins. There was only one way to make this right - I would need a miracle, and the Holy Grail would do just that.
February 16th
Divine light poured down from the large stained glass windows onto the freshly varnished floorboards until they shone like mirrors. There was not a speck of dust, nor a sound to be heard throughout the church, only the single symbol on floor which stood out in a holy place such as this. A magic circle was painted onto the floor of the church with rooster blood - still wet as Adam gazed over it for a moment. Checking and double checking, another mistake could not be tolerated, this was life or death.
A bounded field enveloped the Church, sealing the doors and the windows, making sure that nobody would disturb that which happened inside - a barrier that blocked even the sound of banging outside. This was all to prepare for the summoning of Gilgamesh, the Babylonian Hero and the one hailed as the 'King of Heroes'. An arrogant king that sees all things as lesser, without Tine this would not go smoothly.
Perhaps it was a good thing that I was alone now - it was one less thing to worry about, I could focus myself wholly on obtaining the Grail. Once this is all over we can return to the days of peace, I know that my flock will manage themselves
Adam looked up above him to the tapestry painted on the apse of the church, it was a messy work that brought along with it memories of the old days. The stick figures trying to resemble a man and all their silly little features, he could remember holding up the children as they painted - they felt like memories of yesterday, but now they were more than distant. It brought a casual smile to his face until it became a look of determination - he was prepared.
Adam stretched out his arm with a golden trinket, roughly resembling a key with a polished obsidian handle firmly in his grasp. This would serve as a catalyst without the elixir of immortality, it was the key that opened the gates of the treasury, a relic that would summon Gilgamesh without a doubt. His mind finally cleared of thought, he began to chant once more, letting the words that came to him be said without thought.
''For elements, gold and iron. *drip*
For the foundation, stone and the Archduke of Contracts to the corner-stone. *drip*
The alighted becomes a wall.
The gates in four directions close.
Shut. Fill. Shut. Fill. Shut. Fill. Shut. Fill. Shut. Fill.
Coming from the crown, the three-forked road that leads to the kingdom circulate''
A sudden burst of wind rushed through the hallway of Church with the fluttering of a red silken cape in the wind seemed to descend from above, as Gilgamesh stood before Adam with imposing golden armour decorated - ancient words were etched onto the surface. He glared down at Adam with anger gleaming with crimson blood, such a perfect face, with the shock worn off Adam found himself kneeling before him.
''...Tell me, are you the lowly Mage that would ask a boon from the king of all in all his illustriousness?'' asked Gilgamesh, his voice booming a condescending tone.
I couldn't say a word. None would come to mind, never in my life have I been in a position of servitude - what could I say. But I need to stay strong for Tine
With that thought in mind he rose his head and looked up to face the King of Heroes, calming his mind as he began to focus. ''I humbly wish to use your treasure in order to revive my friend Tine Chelc, great King. As you may remember, she was the child by your side during the previous war in Snowfield'' said Adam fluidly without struttering.
''Yes, I do remember the child and she did indeed reunite me with my only friend. However, all the treasures of this world belong to me but rejoice, for I will offer you a trade. Return to me the elixir of eternal youth and I allow your wish'' he said, sneering down at Adam.
Now looking down at the varnished floorboards, his miserable face reflected what he felt as he spoke. ''The elixir was stolen last night by the one that killed Tine'' said Adam solemnly.
''Then I suppose I have no choice but to join in this farce until it is reclaimed. You'd do well to find worthy entertainment until one great enough to be felled by my blade appears. For now, I suppose I will see what has become of my garden'' he said, as his golden armor vanished and was exchanged for modern clothing. A simple black jacket that opened up to the plain white dress shirt, with black trousers.
I can - I will win this! There is no other way back.
