Jeremy Jones

I struggled under his tight grip but eventually gave up. He chuckled, "What? I'm stronger than you already?"

"Yeah yeah, very funny Asher now let me up." When I was able to move I raced from the bench, around the trees and pounced on his back, almost making him fall over. "You may be stronger but I still have the element of surprise."

He rolled his eyes, "Speak of surprises. What are you doing here?"

I took a second to think my answer over, "I was getting cold feet." I tried to joke it off but he wasn't going to let me slip that easily. "What? I can't say I missed my brother?"

I shrugged as he just stared at me. "Why did you come here?" He walked closer to me but stared at the ground as if he was skeptical of his footing.

"This was were you were in the last letter I got so I hoped you might have still been here." My words were catching in my throat and tears began to threaten the corners of my eyes. He laughed nervously, "So I take it dad didn't give you the 'ok' to leave? You know you've lead him right to me right?" I was shocked by his words, he was basically accusing me of turning him over to our dad.

"How is that? I've been here for over a week and he still hasn't found me."

He shot me and evil eyed glare, "Maybe he has but what's the point in bringing you home when you aren't needed yet?"

"Is that how you feel?! That you're only still running the streets because 'he doesn't need you?!' Well guess what, I need you, mom needs you!" I could feel the hot tears running down my cheeks but I didn't care anymore. "Since you left dad has been nagging on me twenty-four-seven and mom, mom ain't even there anymore."

"What do you mean?" He grabbed the shoulder of my dark hoodie but I shrugged him off. "Mom doesn't just care about me, she loves you and since you left you're all she talks about. I can't even have a single conversation with her without you being brought up. All she does is sit in her room, waiting for you to come back but you never do." I collapsed on the bench, my head buried in my hands.

It was silent for a second before Asher said anything. "Oh yeah, well do you think it's easy living in that house?! Dad acts like he can't stand me and I'm the only one different. At least here I belong, besides practically being an orphan I'm just like everyone else." He raised his arms as if to say he fit in with the whole world rather than just this small town. "Asher you know you're no different." I insisted.

"Oh I'm not?! There's just one giant thing I'm missing cause dad refused to give it to me! I did everything he's ever wanted me to but still he wouldn't change me so everything went down hill after I turned thirteen. My time was up and he knew it!" I knew it too but I never thought Asher would act this way because he was never turned into a vampire. Sure humans could be turned at any age but since Asher and I was born to both vampiric parents we only had a specific time zone before our bodies wouldn't accept the new gene. "Sure you're my brother but do you know how hard it is to live with you?! You're the apple of dads eye while I'm just the moocher - the odd ball in the bunch." His silvery eyes moistened over.

"I never saw you as different. You were always my little brother and I protected you when I could. Vampire or not you were still my family."

"I had mom and yours approval but sometimes that wasn't enough. I needed to know that my dad liked me but instead all he ever did was degrade me for the decisions I made." He turned and headed back toward the trees that surrounded the park, "Go home, Jeremy. You don't belong here." Was I hearing right?! He just told me how awful he felt for being pushed aside and now he was doing it to me? You'd think when you've witnessed it first hand that you wouldn't do it to anyone else but I guess Asher didn't learn.

I didn't care what Asher had said, I was going to stay because I couldn't leave Emmery hanging. I knew she liked me and she knows I like her and for that reason alone I couldn't go home - at least not yet.

Emmery Wilson

"Yes mom I'm going to come strait home after school!" I yelled loud enough for her to hear me.

"Okay, I love you!"

"Love you too!"

I walked by Eli and Alyssa who sat at the kitchen table eating a sticky yellow glob of mush that was Eli's excuse for scrambled eggs. "Have a nice day Emmery." Alyssa smiled as Eli fed her another bite of mush.

"Bye Lyss." The corners of my mouth pulled up into the fakest smile I could manage, all along wondering when Eli was going to take her home.

My feet felt heavy against the sidewalk but thankfully I had left early enough so I wouldn't have to run to make it before the first bell. "Emmery?" My body froze in place, I knew that voice. It was a voice that I haven't heard since I was little, so many years ago. He started to walk closer to me and I wanted to run but my mind had stopped working.

Why was he here now?! "What do you want?" My voice was barely a whisper but it was all I could muster. I began to walk again, a little faster with each step.

"Em, I've missed my little girl." He pleaded.

He followed close behind me, "Go find yourself another little girl. You haven't cared all these years!" He was so close I could hear him breathing heavily, trying to keep up. "Please Em?"

I turned to face him, "No. Just go away!" He bounded forward and threw his arms around me. I was stunned for a moment, reminiscing all the good times I had with my dad.

"Please baby. Come live with me. You could be my princess again." I tried to push him off me but he held on to my shoulders.

I pushed again, "No!"

"I'm sorry to have to do this baby." He had barely gotten his sentence out before I felt the sharp pain entering my right arm. I screamed but it seemed as if nothing would come out, what had he given me in the needle? I slowly began to loose feeling in my fingers and legs until I couldn't even stand on my own. He carried me to a truck that was a few houses down and buckled me into the front seat. Where was be going to take me and did he really want to be my dad again? If so, he's not getting off to a good start. I remembered Jeremy, he'd be sitting all alone in the park waiting for me but I most likely wouldn't come. What would he think of me? I wanted to scream but I couldn't control my mouth long enough to do so. My dad drove down many familiar streets until he descended into unclaimed territory. We weren't in my small city anymore, I wasn't sure where we were. Everything seemed to be dark and gloomy but that just could have been a trick of my eyes. I wanted to go home, go to the park, go shopping with Alyssa, anything but be here. Where ever 'here' is. My dad killed the engine and got out of the truck, opening my door a moment later. "Come on, Princess." His arms wrapped around the middle of my back and under my knees and pulled me close to his chest. What did he want with me? Where was he taking me? I had so many questions but no mouth to voice them, it's not like anyone would answer me anyway.
