Gilbert just couldn't collect all his thoughts.
What he just heard...
What he just witnessed.
It was wrong.

Gilbert shook his head fast, trying to put them aside.
"This isn't your fight Gil.... Not your fight." He tried to convince himself as he slowly shuffled out the apartment doors. He made it to his vehicle and got in. But he didn't start it, he didn't pull out of the driveway. He just sat there, staring out at the glass entrance doors. He leaned back and sighed deeply.
"But what if it is..?" He mumbled to himself. He couldn't help but feel it was his fight. He wanted to help. No, he needed too. He couldn't just stand by and watch this domestic abuse go down. Especially to someone like Matthew. Someone so innocent, and kind. Someone who has seriously done nothing wrong and would never deserve this terrible life. Gilbert felt a chill ripple up his spine, making his white hair feel like it was standing on end.
'Could I even do anything?' He thought. He took a deep breath and started up the vehicle. He took off the parking break and carefully make his way out of the parking lot and down the road. He had to search the depths of his mind to remember what he needed. Eggs. After he was half way to the supermarket he remembered. But his mind still lingered on Matthew. Poor, innocent Matthew.

Gilbert shook his head, turning on the car radio to distract him. It was his favorite alternative radio, and by the sound of it, he just caught the beginning of the song. It started out with a drum solo, then added some guitar. Followed soon by the vocals.

Hey, girl, you know you drive me crazy
One look puts the rhythm in my hand.
Still I'll never understand why you hang around
I see what's going down.

Gilbert tapped his fingers, he liked the song's rhythm. Although it seemed upbeat, he realized there was a deeper meaning.

Cover up with make-up in the mirror.
Tell yourself, it's never gonna happen again
You cry alone and then he swears he loves you.

Gilbert got intrigued by the lyrics and turned the volume up.

Do you feel like a man when you push her around?
Do you feel better now as she falls to the ground?
Well, I'll tell you, my friend, one day this world's gonna end
As your lies crumble down, a new life she has found.

This song. This beautiful alternative song. Was an abuse song. Almost like a protest song. He continued to listen, until it was over. Not realizing he had passed the supermarket a few lights back. He silently played it off like he meant to do it.

"And that was a song that's growing in popularity, Face down by the red jumpsuit apparatus! Now for-" Gilbert shut off the radio and turned into a parking lot, just to turn around.

He (finally) made it to the supermarket, parking in the nearest parking spot to the door. Gilbert open the car door and slammed it shut. He breathed out deeply.
"Alright. Focus on the task at hand." He walked to the doors of the super market and grabbing a plastic grocery basket, since he wasn't really getting much. He attempted to push away the constant dark thoughts about Matthew that would try and creep up into his mind. He usually shook them off.

"Gil! Is that you?" He heard someone call his name, he turned and smiled to see a blonde make with glasses and a slight cowlick smiling in his direction. The junior, soon to be senior next year, had been on the football team with Gil and they actually got close over the season. It felt like forever since he had seen him.

"Alfred? Wow I didn't expect to see you!" He greeted him cheerfully. Thankful to get something else on his mind.

"Yep! In the flesh and skin!" He replied with a cheery laugh. "What bring you here this early?"

"Uh." Gil looked around and made a captain obvious face. "Shopping. Y'know, what you do at a store?"

"Your an ass Yanno that? I meant for what."

Gilbert rolled his eyes and showed him the basket.
"Not much." He shrugged. "Eggs."

"Nice. So hey, I'm having this party Saturday. Maybe you'd like to show up?" Alfred looked hopeful, him and Gilbert needed to catch up.

"Hm. Ja, you can count me in. Who's all going?"

"Matthias and his boy, Antonio, Lovino, Arthur, Francis, Ivan said maybe... Some tag alongs maybe- And hopefully my brother will show up! Ever since he started dating that boyfriend of his... He's grown distant....." Alfred's smile faded.
"I'm starting to worry really." He stopped and noticed Gilbert's realizing and scared look. Gil had forgot that Alfred and Mattie where half brothers, and close.

"Uh, Gil, you good?" He asked.

"Huh? Ja! Fine! Sorry," He cleared his throat and nodded.
"Count me in. But hey, I'll give you a call alright? I gotta get back to the house."

"Yeah no problem dude! See ya!" He hurried off to finish his own shopping. Gilbert felt a sinking guilt In His stomach. He felt as though he should have explained what was going on to Alfred. It was the perfect opportunity and the right thing to do, but he didn't. With the guilt still bubbling in his stomach he went to the checkout and got the hell out of the supermarket. I. The way home he drowned out his thoughts with loud music.

Today has just not been his day.
