--- Laura's P.O.V ---
Six hours and twenty five minutes, that's how long I've been lying in this bed trying to sleep. Every time I close my eyes, my brain begins working over time trying to sort through everything that went on with Harry. Jared isn't home yet, despite it being five in the morning. He hasn't answered or returned a single call either.
For the first time ever, I feel insecure about our relationship. I guess I've never really read too far into our issues until now. I've viewed his late night antics as a need for space and I've never thought twice that they were anything else. Just a rut in the road that will be paved over in time. Maybe I'm being silly, drawing conclusions on someone else from my own wrongdoings, but knowing how easy it was for me to deceive him only makes it that much easier to believe he could deceive me.
Lying in this bed is useless, I won't be able to sleep until he's home. I pull myself out from the covers and drag myself down the stairs to wait for him in the kitchen. I dig through my bag for my package of essays to mark and find the novel I borrowed from Harry two nights ago; Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. I forgot I had taken it from him and now I don't have a clue how I will get it back to him. All I know is I can't see his face again. One look into his green eyes and I'm immediately entranced. One look at his red lips and my reasoning shuts off. I don't know what's gotten into me, it's like I can't resist.
Suddenly, I hear the creek of the front door coming to a close and the gentle pad of footsteps along the wood floor. I can hear his keys dangling from his one hand as he comes around the corner towards the kitchen. If he's trying to sneak in, he's in for a rude awakening.
"Shit, Laura, you scared me," he says, dropping his keys on the ground. He bends down and fumbles around until he has them in his palm.
"Where were you?" I probe, placing the book on the table and folding my arms in front of me. He rolls his eyes at me and turns to the fridge.
"I was out, mom," he snickers, drinking straight from the bottle of Coke.
"Answer my question."
"What a joke, I'm a grown man," he responds. He looks me up and down, noticing I'm not dressed for bed. "Where did you go last night?"
"I was out," I spit, slamming the fridge door shut and storming up the stairs.
"Out with who?" I can hear his footsteps following me.
"I'm a grown woman," I mock.
I pull my clothes off and change into a loose t-shirt while he stands in the doorway staring at me. I give him a smug smirk and flop into the bed, pulling the covers all the way up. As my eyes finally begin to rest, I see his shadow growing more distant.
A light suddenly bursts through the bedroom door and a figure reemerges, only this time it's not Jared. I can see the silhouette of someone taller with more hair. They begin moving closer and closer, until my eyes can finally register who it is; Harry. He's shushing me as he creeps towards the bed, slowly pulling his shirt over his head until his tattoos and chiseled abs are revealed. I can't tear my eyes away from him, not even to check the doorway for Jared.
"Laura, I want you right now," his deep voice whispers as he runs his fingers through his messy tresses.
"But Jared's downstairs?"
"He won't even know. Just let me take your mind off him," he replies.
My chest begins pounding ferociously and my cheeks flush as I watch him slip out of his tight jeans. I can't stop my eyes from following the defined v down to his tight black Calvin boxer-briefs. The sight of them clinging to his body is enough to drive me insane, to make me crave him. I look up to his jade eyes and they tell me where things are going to go. I should be saying no, I should be protesting, but I can't. It's been hard to resist him, hard to say no to his charm and right now I don't want too.
