I said my goodbyes to all my friends and nurses at the center before I had to leave to get to my plane. It was one of the saddest experiences I have experienced there.
The ride to the airport took near an hour and it took another hour to get through security. My flight is to be called in five minutes, so I listen to a song being played at the airport I don't know what it is but it's not that bad. After the song is over the flight is called, I hand the attendant my ticket and find my seat eager for the ride ahead.
The plane ride is estimated to last around 2 hours. I am seated next to a girl who I assume is about my age. I am glad that I don't see any small children behind me or even near me so I don't have to worry about my seat being kicked or that I have to hear constant crying. The girl next to me interrupts my thoughts by saying "Hey" because I don't want to just sit there thinking the entire ride I reply with a "Hi".
She smiles and says " My names is Rayleigh, whats yours?"
I respond with " My name is Evangeline but you can call me Evan and I like your name"
"I see why you go by Evan with such a long name but do you mind if I call you Evelin instead so it doesn't seem so boyish"
I give her a confused look so she laughs and corrects herself by saying " Your name starts with Eva and ends with Lin so EvaLin which transfers to sound like Evelyn but if you don't want me to I completely understand" I smile and say " Actually I would like that and do you mind if I go by Evelyn to some people?" " Why would I mind?" "I-I don't know?" " haha OK then so tell me about yourself Evelyn" I look down because I don't want to see her eyes if they judge me while I talk after I figure that I shouldn't be embarrassed of my past I tell her "there's not much to tell four months after I was born I was sent to an adoption center and I have lived there since until now I was just adopted by a family from Wisconsin, what about you" Unexpectedly I feel her lift my chin up and tell me " I would never judge you for your past and I hope you know that, and I too was adopted I was just visiting the center to see my old friends my adoptive family lives in Wisconsin" we both smile before I ask her what center she was from I soon find out she was from the same one she asked me who I am living with and apparently we live about 3 miles from each other. It's a small world after all. We continue to share out interests only to find out that we are like twins just about all the same favorites except she likes supreme pizza and I like taco pizza. We soon are interrupted by the flight attendant saying we have landed. She gives me her number and we go our separate ways.
