Luna
Running. Running through the rain. I can feel it's breath on my neck, it's fists closing around my throat. The monster. The minotaur. And then I am falling. Falling through the rain. When I hit the ground, all I can feel is pain, and when I get up again, the minotaur stands towering above me. I try to shoot it with my bow and arrow, but my weapons catch on fire, scorching my hands. I scream loudly, and the minotaur changes into a girl. "You are wearing trousers." She says, glaring at me with green eyes. But they aren't green for long, they start changing colour, from green to red to purple to-
Orange.
Orange.
I surface from the dream and gasp in relief when I realise that's all it is.
Only a dream.
But now I feel safe again, I realise another thing. I realise that I have never liked the colour orange, even though it was what just brought me out of that terrible dream. Want to know why? Because orange is what is currently keeping me from lying in this morning now that I know I'm not about to be murdered by a girl/minotaur that dislikes my fashion sense.
I scrunch up my face and sigh as I roll over and bury my face in my pillow. What time is it? Whatever: my dad will get me up eventually. Maybe he'll even bring me crescent-toast and orange juice like he does when I'm sick...
I sit up and swing my legs over the side of the bed, even though my eyes are still closed. I stretch and yawn, realising that unfortunately I'm not sick enough for breakfast in bed. In fact, I don't feel sick at all, I feel full of adrenaline which is weird for me considering that I now know why I'm not much of a morning person because my mother is the goddess of the moon.
My mother is goddess of the moon.
My eyes fly open, and I am greeted with a sight that is not my room at home. This isn't the shabby little curtained-off section of the astronomy observatory that belongs to me. This is a dormitory, like in a summer camp, full of sleeping kids with their heads buried under pillows and their walls buried under posters.
Summer camp. Camp. Camp Halfblood.
"Dammit." I hiss under my breath, whipping round from side to side, taking in my surroundings and muttering various curses in my head.
It was all real. Well, maybe that dream was a little bit exaggerated, but it still came from the truth. I am still the daughter of a goddess. I am still not really meant to exist. I still killed a minotaur. I still wear trousers.
I know that much but what I don't know is where I am right now.
I fall back onto the bed again, staring up at the bunk above me. It's slightly dipped due to the fact that it is occupied, and I shudder at the thought of having to such sleep in close proximity to a stranger. I've never had to share a room with anyone but my dad, and I never went to a normal school because he said that it was too dangerous. I never knew why at first, but now I know. I just have to figure out whether he meant that I was dangerous, or there were dangers to me.
Come on Luna, where are you? I ask myself, scrunching my eyes up again to try and remember.
I think back to last night:
I ate dinner with the Hunters, and then we went to this weird sing-along with a cosy fire, various toast able edible things on sticks, and a whole crowd of singing blond kids that really knew how to get a crowd going. They were the Apollo Cabin, I remember.
Then people started telling stories about quests. They just seemed so unreal, like something out of the Odyssey or a mythology book, but after the events of that day, I hung onto every last word and imaged myself in the same position.
